Reviews of "Welcome to Mooseport" by The Four Bastards

Never underestimate the drawing power of Gene Hackman

Hot Chick: Reagan Pasternak, who plays "Mandy"

This picture (from a TV movie) is the best I could do! Trust me, she's hot.
Hot Chick Factor: 8.5

Synopsis -- the former POTUS retires to Mooseport, Maine, and ends up running for mayor as a PR stunt that backfires when local hardware-store owner Handy Harrison enters the race as well! The former prez attempts to seduce Handy's girlfriend in a Clintonesque move, furthering the heat of the election. Of course, wackiness ensues.

Short declaratory phrase in an attempt to get quoted in TV trailer, ad, or cover box --

"A stunningly hilarious look into the democratic process! Gene Hackman could still kick my ass at 80 or whatever he is!"

Nate's review:

Aimed at an older demographic than myself, this movie nevertheless packed the mall theater at the screening and elicited many laughs from the audience. Ray Romano's first attempt at the big screen was not bad, but I thought Laura Tierney from "E.R." was the biggest pleasant surprise of all the TV people. She came across as very at ease and natural on camera, whereas Romano's "Handy" character sometimes did not. This is not to say that Romano's performance was bad, she was just really good. Incidentally, I know a girl that used to have the nickname "Handy" because of a particular pseudo-sexual move she used to employ frequently in her adolescence. You can figure out the rest... but I digress. Marcia Gay Harden was fine in her role as Hackman's lovesick Admin, but I think she is too good for the part, so it was a little disconcerting to see her in that regard. It's akin to seeing Sean Connery playing Larry from the Three Stooges. Final word: If you're in the 35+ demo and you enjoy lighthearted comedies and/or Romano's TV show, see the movie. If not, you're not missing out on much, but you could certainly do worse (that Green Lizard-Super-Troopers-or-Whatever piece of shit thing, perhaps?).
Rating: 7 out of 10 drunken "handies"
