Curse Of The Demon 1957

Director: Jacques Tourneur

Starring:
Dana Andrews, Peggy Cummins, Niall MacGinnis, Maurice Denham, Athene Seyler

An American skeptic (Dana Andrews) flies to England for a conference on the supernatural. Upon his arrival he finds that his collegue has been accidently killed. But we already knew this because we saw it happen. He was chased by a huge firey demon and while trying to escape smashed his car into a hydro pole. This caused the powerlines to fall and electrocute him. The demon then hacked him to pieces.

Dana now meets his friend's lovely and talented niece. These two will be our fearless heros.

The third main party is the leader of a cult movement. His group believes that good is evil and evil is good, whatever that means. He's the guy that conjures up the beast by slipping a piece of parchment with ancient symbols on his unsuspecting victims. Once the victim has possession of the parchment the demon will seek them out and kill them.

When Dana starts calling the cult leader a fraud he is slipped a parchment. of course, being a skeptic, Dana scoffs at the threat but at the last minute he slips the parchment back to him.

Although it's not a bad movie it plays out more like a drama than a horror flick. We don't get to see much of the demon and when we do it's pretty unspectacular. Lots of talk not much action.
