INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, 1956
Directed by... Don Siegel Starring... Kevin McCarthy, Dana Wynter, Larry Gates, King Donovan, Carolyn Jones, Jean Willes, Ralph Dumke, Virginia Christine
As the movie opens we see an
obviously very shaken up Dr. Miles Binnell (Kevin McCarthy) in
a hospital telling a fantastic story to a psychiatrist about duplicate people being hatched from seed pods...
Here's The Deal
The good doctor returns to Santa Mira from a
conference and is met by Sally Withers (Jean Willes) his faithful
nurse who tells him that his appointment book is overflowing, but
when he gets to his office nobody shows up for their
appointments... The only person to that pops in is Becky Driscoll
(Dana Wynter), an old flame that has been recently divorced, as
has Miles... But even stranger things are in the
air... People around town seem to think that their friends and
relatives are impostors... Miles runs into Dr. Dan Kauffman
(Larry Gates) who tells him that this seems to be an epidemic
around town... Miles and Becky are called out to
Jack and Teddy Belicec's (King Donovan and Carolyn Jones) house
to view what is possibly a dead body... But the body seems to be
not quite fully formed and is an almost exact copy of Jack...
After Miles and Becky leave, Jack falls asleep and the body's
eyes pop open to the horror of Teddy whose scream awakens Jack...
They take off over to Miles' house and he decides to make sure
Becky is ok... In the basement at Becky's place Miles discovers
another body that is a copy of Becky so he takes her to his house
where she spends the night... The following night during a
barbeque the four discover very large seed pods that are
sprouting duplicate bodies... They now figure out that
duplication occurs while the real person is sleeping... Deciding
that the police and phone company may have been taken over by
duplicates, Miles sends Jack and Teddy for help... He and Becky
hide in his office until morning watching trucks being loaded with
seed pods to distribute other towns... Jack shows up, but he has been duplicated too and locks them in the office to be taken over...
They manage to overcome their captors and flee to the surrounding
hills where becky falls asleep and is duplicated... Miles now runs for his life with a
mob chasing him and makes it to the highway where he runs through
traffic like a madman trying to warn people of the danger... Now
back at the hospital he finishes his story to the disbelief of
those around him... An accident victim that flipped his truck is
brought in by ambulance and the attendant tells the doctors that they had to dig him out from under a pile of big seed pods...
Could this possibly mean that the story is true? |
