It Came from Outer Space II 1996

A remake of the classic 1953 film.

A big time photographer comes back to a small desert town where he's liked by some and hated by others. He has a local kid who's following him around as he takes pictures. Suddenly out of nowhere something that resembles a violent thunder storm descends on them. Blue crystal rocks are flying about and one crashes through the window of his his Jeep. They beat it back to town and develop the pictures of the storm which show that it wasn't a storm but something very strange.

A mound begins to grow out on the desert. A coyote goes near the mound and is sucked in and duplicated. A guy starts chasing the coyote and he's duplicated, and so on until there is quite a collection of bodies in there. Soon there is a heatwave enveloping the town and no one can get in or out. The wells run dry, the phones go out and finally the electricity quits. The locals begin to panic in the finest red neck tradition and decide to blow the mound to hell and back. Whoops, that didn't work.

Right about this time we find out that the blue crystal rocks are all a part of an alien creature. Actually I already had this figured out, ain't I smart? Once all the parts are back together the thing can reassemble itself and leave our planet.

The effects for this one are only average but the movie moves along okay. Not too much boring filler stuff in it. The inside of the ship/alien remind me very much of Fantastic Voyage (1966). It's not bad if you're not expecting too much.
