Kingdom Of The Spiders 1977

It's true folks, after his five year mission in deep space, fighting off all kinds of evil aliens and boinking the female of every species, Billy Shatner is called upon to save us all from an enemy that originates right here on our own planet.

Billy has settled down in the middle of the Arizona Desert amoung all those pretty rock formations. He now makes his living as a veterinarian and calls himself Rack. There's a nice little tearjerker story behind the name but we shan't delve into that.

Billy gets a call from the isolated Colby ranch about a sick heifer. The cow dies right after he gets there and Billy doesn't have a clue as to why. He sends off some blood samples to the local university. Later, Colby's wife, dog, prize bull, and Colby himself are killed off. Talk about a streak of bad luck.

Soon a lovely bug doctor from the university shows up in her Mercedes Benz. She tells Billy that the cow died from tarantula venom. She's also a little stuck up at first but we know that Billy is gonna work that country boy charm on her.

Soon there's millions of tarantulas, in the desert, in the town, all over the place. They're killing and cocooning their prey at will. Our main cast holes up at the local motel. The owner and the Sheriff used to be an item. She lovingly calls him "Big Ugly" as he heads to town to get help.

When the Sherrif gets there he finds panic in the streets. There are dead people and cocoons laying in the streets. Those that aren't already dead are running around covered with tarantulas.

Oh oh, excuse me Sherrif, hey Big Ugly, yeah you, please don't park there. Can you just move up a few feet there Sherrif. Whoops, too late. The water tower just fell on him. Geez, that's gotta hurt. Oh well, I guess they ain't gettin' no help back at the motel.

Meanwhile, back at the motel our heros are spending the night trying to keep the spiders from getting in. Next morning the sun is shining and there's not a spider in sight. But what is in sight is frightening, very, very frightening.

This ones pretty good for a TV cheapo and the ending is really wild. Check it out.
