Lake Placid 1999Director: Steve Miner Starring: Somehow or other a 30 foot crocodile has made it's way into a remote lake in the state of Maine. It has remained there undiscovered for years until it munches on a game warden. A team arrives to kill or capture the reptile and that's when the fun begins. This flick tries very hard to be a Spielberg clone but it falls short. It's kind of a Jaws - Jurassic Park ripoff complete with the booming musical soundtrack. That's not to say it's bad movie though. We liked it very much. The croc is pretty good and the attacks are cool especially when it takes out a huge bear. The acting is okay with the animosity between the local sheriff and a nutty professor really adding some much needed comic relief. The constant neurotic whining of Bridget Fonda could have been toned down a bit though, it did start to get on our nerves. Betty White, of TV's Golden Girls fame, is a knockout as the cussing old lady that feeds the croc farm animals. Others discribe this movie as a piece of crap so you can figure
it out for yourself whether or not you want to see it.
