A female novelist with writers block discovers a strange metalic object protruding out of the ground in the "Haunted Woods" out back of her house. She and her boyfriend, who's a poet and a boozehound, start digging it up. After many weeks they have enough of it uncovered to realize it's a spaceship that's been there for centuries.

During the excavation the woman and the rest of the local yokels begin acting weird complete with glowing green eyes. However, the boozehound is not affected by the strange force probably because he's got a steel plate in his noggin.

As the townfolk get weirder and weirder our boozehound decides to take matters into his own hands and rid the area of this evil force.

Tommyknockers was originally a TV mini series. Our version clocks in at three hours. Although it's kind of long it does move along okay, especially the second half.

The comedy bits seem to go south though, probably because this flick tries to come off a bit too serious. There is nothing really original about it. I mean, we've all seen the glowing eyes and the aliens taking over human bodies before. But overall, it's not bad. I don't know what the shorter versions are like.
