Dana Scully woke up at the usual time. She showered and dressed in the usual dark gray suit. Then she left for the FBI using her usual route. But then instead of going straight to the FBI building she took a few more right hand turns than normal and ended up driving through the business end of DC. The streets were lined with shops. Then she took a left turn from Columbia Ave. onto M St. and pulled into a parking lot. It didn't take her long to find the shop she needed. It was called "The Poster Galaxy" and featured an oversized clipping from The Roswell Gazette in the display window. Right away she knew she found what she was looking for. She went in and came out a few minutes later holding a white tube secured by a rubber band. She had doubts in her head but she quickly made her way to the J. Edgar Hoover FBI Building without hesitation.

Instead of taking the elevator up, Mulder pressed the button down. He arrived in the basement. As he stood in front of the basement office door he noticed the two nameplates on the front. J. Spender and D. Fowely. He smiled slyly, slid them both out of their slots, and tossed them over his shoulder. He slid the key in the slot and opened the door with a smile on his face. Finally the x-files were his again.
Hmmmm, the office was a pretty bare. Even though a lot of his posters and pictures which had previously been tacked up all over the walls were burnt and lost in the fire, Mulder still made sure to save most of them. He had hung a lot of them back up as soon as the office was cleaned out. But then Spender came along and must have gotten rid of them. It would take a while to redecorate but he didn't really care. He sat down propping his feet on the desk.
Just then the door to the office swung open and in walked Scully. She smiled as she saw him lounging there. "Good to see your feeling right at home again, Mulder."
"Yeah, but it looks as if Spender didn't really like what I had done with the place," he said nodding toward the bare walls.
"Well I think I have something that might help you out," Scully said with a small hint of mystery in her voice.
Mulder swung his feet off the desk looking confused. What was she talking about? Just then he noticed the white tube in her hand. He had a good idea what it was... He smiled as he stood up.
Scully walked over to him and handed him the tube. "Consider it a kind of welcome home present."
"Gee, Scully, I didn't know you cared," Mulder joked. He grinned as he removed the rubber band. Sure enough, he found just what he expected. An exact copy of the previous poster which had been on his wall. The words "I Want to Believe" stared back up at him.
Scully watched carefully as Mulder looked at it. She was kind of wondering what to do next, but just then Mulder smiled at her. "Thank you, Scully," he said softly. Then he hugged her. Scully closed her eyes as she leaned her head on his shoulder.
They were embracing for almost a minute when Scully pulled away some what embarrassed. Mulder just kept on smiling. He turned away and started searching through the desk drawers. Eventually he found a container full of thumbtacks and proceeded to tack the poster up on the wall in the same place where the original had been. When he was finished, both he and Scully leaned back on the edge of the desk side by side and starred at it.
"Well it's a start," said Scully interrupting the silence.
Mulder laughed softly. "Trust me Scully, give me a few months and this office will be just as big a mess as it's ever been."
"Now that I will believe," said Scully with a contented sigh. "The most important part is that you've got the x-files back though."
"Yep," replied Mulder. "I have the two most important things I need and one of them is right there in those filing cabinets."
"Two?" inquired Scully. "What else is there?"
"The woman who's standing right beside me," he said without blinking.
Scully looked at Mulder and her mouth dropped open. She meant to say something but she couldn't think of what. She clenched her jaw together and gazed at the floor. How on earth could she reply to that? Just then she felt Mulder's hand under her chin tilting her head upward. When she saw the serious and passionate look on his face she knew that she didn't have to say anything.
They closed their eyes and their lips met. It was probably the most gentle kiss either of them had ever experienced. It wasn't demanding or hungry, just...well....sweet. Mulder placed his hands on her waist as Scully's hands came up to rest on his shoulders. It lasted until they had to come up for air. They looked into each other's eyes. The moment was neither awkward nor confusing. They just felt contented, like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"So now what?" asked Scully softly still perfectly happy to be in his arms.
"Now we pick up where we left off." answered Mulder. Then he thought for a second. "Only this time I have a feeling that the journey's going to be a lot less lonelier."
