In 1983 Octopussy was the first Bond in history to be challenged by a rival Bond film. After Thunderball was filmed the producer Kevin McClory set out to rewrite the story and maybe secure Sean Connery as Bond. For many year Sean refused the role of 007 again, but with enough money Sean took up the role of 007 again and the Summer of 1983 was set to be the clash of Roger Moore and Sean Connery. Then Warner Brothers decided to hold off the release of Never Say Never Again until the Fall. That left both films wide open to there own markets. In the end fan like Octopussy much better since that Never Say Never Again was only a poor remake of Thunderball. The story follows a fed up Russian General Orlov who has his sights set on blowing up a nuclear bomb on a US Air Force base in West Germany, thus causing NATO to get ride of nuclear weapons in Europe and paving the way for a Russian invasion of Eastern Europe. With the help of Kamal Khan, Orlov sets his plan in motion with the Octopussy’s Flying Circus as cover.
