His movies

  • On Little Giants

    - "He [his character] is completely different than I am. I mean, it was cool playing him and it was fun to shoot, but the character - sorry - wasn't a challenge. You know, there was no emotion, there were no colors or no nothing. It was just flat."
    - "Junior was the quiet, shy jock and all the girls liked him, but he wasn't really interested in girls, just in football."

  • On Casper

    - "In Casper or Little Giants or Now and Then, I'm just, you know, the heartthrob character."
    - "Casper was definitely my big breakthrough role."
    - "It's a small role, but it's a very important role."
    - "Everything in the movie looks really great, because the special effects are so great. But in the end, it's really just a love story. The boy just happens to be a ghost."
    - "It's different, it's unique. Tha animation in it has never been used before, and I'm not surprised people went crazy for it. There's a great cast too."

  • On Now and Then

    - "I played the bully of the town, the neighborhood bully. The girls bug me - 'Squirmy Wormer' they call me - but I end up falling in love with one of the girls at the end."
    - "Well, first me and my mom weren't too sure about it [his flasher scene in the movie]. We talked about it, and we decided I could do it. I feel like, everyone's got a bum, and, you know."
    - "[talking about the movie] It's about four girls who are growing up in the 1970s and I play the neighborhood bully. I'm just bullying them to death and at the end I fall in love with one of the girls. We have one of those romantic kissing scenes."
    - "My character is Scott Wormer. He's the neighborhood bully turned love interest. [...] So there's a lot of transformation in this character, a lot of range. It was really fun to play."
    - "[his favorite part in N&T] The four boys ride up on their old '70s bikes with balloons filled with Jello and air raid the girls, throwing the balloons at them. It was really sticky!

  • On Robin of Locksley

    - "Robin is a very normal kid until his parents win the lottery. And then he becomes this average kid in this rich kids' atmosphere."
    - "It's a kids' version of Robin Hood in the '90s and instead of stealing from the rich to give to the poor by the old method, it's by computers. It's really cool and very different."

  • On Night of the Twisters

    - "He [his character, Dan Hatch] is very much an all-American kid. Dan's a different guy. He's very simple. He is completely unlike me in real life - I'm actually an athlete, so [he] is a test. And his father is annoyed with Dan because he is not athletic. He's not a football player or a quarterback or whatever, so he's always trying to impress his father."
    - "I'm like baggage to him [Jack, his dad in the movie] - I just come along with the mom."

  • On The Boys Club

    - "Eric [his character] is a smart [aleck] kid that talkes a hundred miles an hour and he thinks that he knows everything. He cusses a lot and he drinks and smokes. Eric is the baddest kid, so there was a lot of range in his character."
    - "In The Boys Club I was sort of the evil, villainous kid that robs the liquor store."
    - "I actually held a gun in The Boys Club, but I never shot it."
    - "Probably what I'm most proud of is The Boys Club."
    - "I liked the story, I wanted to do some action."
    - "The Boys Club is the role I'm most proud of."
    - "There are parts of him [Eric] that are like me and parts that aren't."
    - "It's the character I most liked, and it's been my biggest challenge to show off, as an actor."
    - "You probably won't even recognize me. I play a street kid. He's a thief and the difference is really extreme."

  • On Wild America

    - "It's very interesting and there's a lot of good comedy scenes in it. I think fans are going to enjoy it."

    Stuff he said

  • On acting

    - "Acting has always been my life ever since I was five years old. So, I don't know what I'd do if I wasn't an actor."
    - "I'm not a method actor. I wouldn't go meditate for 20 minutes [before shooting a scene] or anything like that. I just memorize my lines and go and do it."
    - "If acting doesn't work out for me I'd like to become a director or a producer, but I hope it works out."
    - "Sometimes I will have a totally good day, and that's when I get my parts. And then other times I can tell right when I go out on the auditions that I ddn't get it because I just didn't feel right."
    - "For me, it took a long, long time training and working up to where I am now. I mean, I didn't just get a movie overnight. It was a lot of crappy commercials and a lot of hard training and theater and stuff like that."
    - "A lot of people think acting is glamorous, but it's a lot of work."
    - "Fame and money aren't important to me."
    - "I wouldn't take any job. If I'm not working for a while, that's fine. I'm only going to take stuff that I like."
    - "I love acting and I suspect I always will."
    - "I was always the kid who raised his hand first when the teacher asked who wanted a part in the class play."
    - "I was cast in this class play, The Marvelous Toy and I played the toy. We had to make our own costumes, and I wore this cardboard box. Sounds silly, but ever since then, I've been into acting."
    - "I try to choose roles that are very unlike me."

  • On girls, kissing & dating

    - "Totally bad kissers turn me off... a girl who comes on way too fast when we're kissing. If she's just really wet and sloppy and wantes to eat your face off, I classify that as a bad kisser."
    - "[where he'd go on his dream date] I'd like to go to the beach at night and picnic on the beach, maybe hold hands, walk down the beach, listen to the waves under the moon. That probably would be my dream date."
    - "I like to date girls who are themselves, have a good sense of humor and a good personality. Just a girl who doesn't wear a lot of makeup. A little bit of makeup is okay, but some girls just goosh it on, and that's kind of a turn-off."
    - "[on his first kiss] I was in grade 7 and I had no idea what I was doing. She kissed me... I just sat there and, uh, got kissed."
    - "It doesn't matter if she shares my interests or not."
    - "I don't know if I have ever been in love."
    - "It's more like hanging out together. I don't think I've ever had one of those romantic dates. I want to, but I haven't met the right girl yet."
