Well, its certainly been a long time, and its good to finally have a new episode of Dawsons Creek to talk about! I must say that I have mixed feelings about this show, for while I still lament the loss of the qualities that made the show so good in Season One, and I again observe that the show continues to depart from any sort of semblance to reality (Dawson and Pacey in a strip club, Dawson and Pacey hosting strippers in Dawsons house?!!) but I also have to say that this show, unlike so many other shows from last season, was just plain fun!
It was also good to see the sorely missed "old" Pacey again, pushing his still ever cautious friend Dawson to do things he wouldnt ordinarily do, and once again exhibiting the wit and sense of fun that made him such an enjoyable character to watch in the first season. Andie should stay away more often! ;-) I also enjoyed seeing Dawson, for once, not automatically fall for Joeys overtures to get back together, and that he recognized that he needed to be away from her, or else there would be nothing left of the love that had been between them. I thought, though, that this scene was incredibly moving, and I thought it was handled very well. There was, of course, a part of me that wanted Dawson to simply take Joey in his arms again, but she HAS hurt him badly, and they DO need to be apart, at least for now. I was also glad to see Pacey and Joey interacting, as friends, and for Pacey to show, once again, his caring, empathetic side. I was also delighted to see the friendship of Jack and Jen, and how close theyve become, and the way Jen stood up and told off that mean spirited Abby Morgan clone was absolutely wonderful! I also enjoyed seeing Jack and Jen actually LAUGH for a change, and the comically ironic, albeit unrealistic, twist of events as Jen is chosen to be the head cheerleader was a delightful development. The character of Eve, it seems, promises to be a bad influence on our comically nervous and confused friend Dawson, and it will be interesting to see what course his relationship with her takes. I feel that she will serve as the catalyst for changes to the character of Dawson Leery, for both good and ill, and that we can expect Dawson to behave in ways very uncharacteristic for him, but that eventually, Dawson will return to both his true character and to Joey. I really disliked Joeys new boss, and his character seems to portend trouble for the future.
All in all, considering my lowered expectations for what was once the best show on television, and fully recognizing that the show will never go back to the qualities it had in Season One, I must say that this was a rather good start to the new season of Dawsons Creek.
