THE TOUCH OF LEONARD NIMOY
DOT Stereo 25910

"Go directly to the K-Mart cut-out bin, do not pass Go, do not even hope to collect royalties."

Despite the hippy daze of the cover art, "The Touch of Leonard Nimoy" is a yawn. By this point, all options have failed; DOT records isn't even bothering to remind you that Leonard had once had a pre Star-Trek broadway career. In fact, they aren't springing for the cost of typesetting liner notes, period.

The LSD inspired cover is quite fascinating. It looks like Leonard has wandered out into the bush after eating a whole lot of magic mushrooms, and is finding it difficult to make it back through the shrubbery. A really groovy leaf on the tree has caught his eye... The photographer seems to be unaware that a whole lot of vaseline has gotten onto the lense of his camera...

Mr. Nimoy is still wearing the same funky outfit that he had on the back cover of "the Way I Feel"...

I sort of like "Maiden Wine" which actually made it on the air in the episode "Plato's Stepchildren" (the version you hear here in Real Audio is the fixed-up TV version) and accidental humor can still be found in a really disturbing rendition of "Nature Boy". Let's face it: all versions of "Nature Boy" are disturbing on one level or another, but this one takes the cake.

Even at this late date, there is a Spock hangover; the odious "Contact". Thank God for plate reverb!

By this point the novelty of hearing Nimoy's graceless baritone croaking last year's top forty gets a little tedious. In my humble opinion, future archivists can go easy on this one.
