Genre: "We Just Wanna Dance!"
Cast:
Plot Synopsis:
Aliens land in Speelburg (a.k.a. Atlanta) in search of rock music. In an entirely unrelated plotline, there's a sea monster from Lake Eerie that bleeds soap bubbles, a gang of evil rockabilly terrors "The Pack" (Jimmy & the Mustangs), a loopy sheriff (Ruth Gordon) who is trying to catch the aliens, a fire-hydrant disguised robot and two recent escapees from a mental asylum killing off random high schoolers at the Heidi High cotillion. And, er, Pia Zadora. Fiesty babe Allison La Placa helps the chainsaw-wielding guy (Michael Berryman) repair his broken tool and find true love. Many silly adventures ensue for this, the (dare I say) pinnacle of cheese in my viewing collection.
Favorite Moments:
- The entirely unrelated, tacked-on duet "When the Rain Begins to Fall" with Jermaine Jackson and Pia Zadora.
- Renegade gang leader/singer Craig Sheffer, with chains wrapped around his upper thigh. For complete Scheffer humiliation, check out the "Nature of the Beast" number, where he has to sing about his "dark, elusive eyes."
- Upon reflection, pink cape-clad Tom Nolan (head of the Rock Aliens) never sings either. Which makes you wonder: in a film with two honest-to-god bands (Rhema and Jimmy & the Mustangs), how come the lead singers are two actors who never actually sing?
- The band battle between the Rock Aliens and The Pack - or "What happens when New Wave meets Rockabilly", a question we've all been asking ourselves.
