TV: BUFFY'S PRINCIPAL KICKS THE BUCKET

Third season Vampire Slayer gets new management

As shooting for Buffy the Vampire Slayer's third season gets underway this week, one of the show's most popular characters -- no, not Willow -- may be taking a brief sojourn into the afterlife some time soon. Yes, Principal Snyder, head of Sunnydale high school and Hellmouth manager is taking a leave of absence from the teaching gig and getting into terrorizing as a member of the undead.

According to Armin Shimerman, the actor who plays Principal Snyder on the show, Buffy will return to school in the first episode, and shortly after that, his character will probably go kaput. "It takes two hours to get into my makeup [as Quark]," said Shimerman, who also plays the Ferengi bartender on Deep Space Nine, "so I'm happy I've remained prosthetic-free on Buffy. But they're fitting me for prosthetics when I get on the set because I think they're going to turn me into a zombie or something."

The show has a real penchant for killing off main cast characters, so it's probably very likely that Snyder's days are numbered. On the good side, Buffy'll probably be overjoyed to stick a stake through her season two tormentor, or at least until she gets a look at his replacement.
