"Dreaming Of You"
She lay in his arms on his bed, watching her movie of choice, Hook. It was
like any other Saturday night - she would climb through his window and they
would pick a movie to watch until they both fell asleep. The only thing that
made this Saturday night different (as well as the past four Saturday's) was
that the girl and boy had become a couple.
Joey and Dawson had just recently become romantically involved, and neither
could remember a happier time in their lives. It was so nice to have the
unresolved tension out of the air.
He began to kiss her neck, just as green-tights clad Robin Williams flew onto
the screen and clashed swords with the infamous wig-wearing Dustin Hoffman.
Joey flipped over so that Dawson could kiss her lips.
"You chose NOW to start this?" she asked with a smile. He clicked off the
television.
"Better?"
"Much," she whispered against his mouth.
The continued to kiss until Dawson's hand brushed against Joey's breast, and
she pushed it down. Breaking the kiss, she spoke,
"Dawson, I-"
"But why, Jo, why?" Dawson interrupted her. "Why not? We've been together
for five weeks now... and we've known each other forever! What's wrong? Why
won't you let me touch you?"
Joey sighed.
"Dawson... there's nothing more I would like to do than to let you continue.
But we just turned sixteen. It's too early. Just wait for me... if you
really love me, you'll wait until I'm ready," she answered.
Now it was Dawson's turn to sigh.
"You know I love you, Joey, more than anything. It sounds corny, I know, but
you have to understand how I feel about you. But I also love you enough to do
like you asked," he said, and meant it.
Joey smiled with tears in her eyes. She wrapped her arms around his neck and
leaned her head on his chest. Dawson draped his arms around her waist.
"Hey," Dawson said softly. "You know I love you, right?" Joey smiled and
nodded like a little girl. Dawson pressed his lips to hers gently, almost
reverently, in a sign of love and understanding.
When they broke apart, Joey spoke.
"It may not be as long a time as you think." She smirked, and before Dawson
could answer, she had pushed his head down with a slight force so his mouth
could meet hers. The movie was forgotten, until Dawson's dad decided to waltz
in and interrupt. The couple flipped on the TV and finished the movie. With
a final kiss, Joey went home for the night.
Jen lay on her bed, lost in thought. It had been five weeks since Joey and
Dawson had started to become romantically involved. And it pissed Jen off to
no end. Dawson was HER'S, not Joey's!
Okay, so maybe they had broken up, but she wanted to get back together! And
he had welcomed her with open arms... literally! Then she remembered their
conversation about their relationship...
"Jen, we need to talk."
"About what?"
"Us."
"Oh, ok. What's up?"
"Jen, I came to tell you that there is no 'us' anymore. I'm... breaking up
with you."
And with that, she had agreed calmly and rationally to his statement that
"we're not getting along like we used to, at least not romantically, and it's
only going to hurt you, so it would be better if we were just friends".
"All I have to ask is why, Dawson?"
He had taken a nervous breath here.
"There's... someone else, Jen."
A lightbulb went off in Jen's head, just as tears came to her eyes. She would
not let them flow.
"Let me guess: Tall brunette with sassy attitude and your best friend."
Dawson had nodded and then said goodbye. Jen turned toward her house and,
when Dawson could not see her anymore, began to cry.
It all seemed like so long ago, even though it was just over a month. The
days seemed like years, and Dawson and Jen barely spoke anymore.
"Apparently, he's too busy with Joey," Jen retorted aloud. She slammed her
fists into the mattress. She lay still for only a moment before a thought
crept into her blonde head.
"He's not going to be so busy with her for long..."
At the same time, Pacey Witter was enjoying one of his brother Doug's pep
talks about how he was such a loser adn that he would never amount to
anything, and that he was a disgrace to the family.
Pacey listened, but not with his heart. He had become accustomed to Doug's
ranting and raving, and let it go in one ear and out the other. But that
didn't mean it didn't hurt him to know that Doug thought of him that way. So
when his brother stopped to take a breath, Pacey interrupted him by saying,
"Look, Doug, I don't really give a damn about what you think of me - we all
know you can't stand to look at me! But that doesn't mean you have to scream
and yell how much you don't like me. And besides, we all know that half of
this is the frustration of knowing that I'm the only one who knows that you're
gay." He added the last line with a smirk. Doug fumed.
"I don't even want to look at you anymore, Pacey. Get out!"
"Just leaving," Pacey answered with a fake smile, and leapt out the door.
When he was well beyond the place that housed his family, he let the unshed
tears come out. It felt good to let them flow, since he had been holding them
in for so long. Pacey had come to the little wooden dock, and sat down to
think and shed his tears.
"Nothing is ever good enough. Why am I always the one who gets blamed?
Granted, I've made more than a few mistakes, but why do I never get a piece of
the happiness?"
"I don't know, Pacey, I've been wondering the same thing," said a voice from
behind him. Pacey wiped his eyes and turned around to face Jen.
"Hey Jen," he said.
"Hey. What's up?" she asked, sitting down next to him and dangling her legs
over the side of the dock.
"Nothing, just Doug banishing me from the house again, and feeling sorry for
myself over my incredibly bad existence on the planet. You?" he answered
bitterly.
"Nothing new, just thinking about one handsome blonde we all know, who just
happens to be going out with one sassy brunette we all know."
"Dawson clouding your thoughts again, huh?" Pacey asked.
"You could say that. But hearing your statement a bit earlier, I would risk
saying that your a little upset about the brunette, too. Am I right?" Jen
inquired.
"Yeah, I guess so," Pacey sighed.
"I think I could help you with that..." Jen said softly, with a devious
glance.
"How?"
"Well, the two things we want most want each other. I plan to change that.
With a little help from Mr. Women - Fall - At - My - Feet, being you, you just
may get what you want too."
Pacey was eager to help. It was time that he got a little of the happiness in
the world.
"What do I have to do?"
"Simple," Jen said, "I'll invite Dawson over to study with me. Once I put
some of my New York moves on him, he'll forget all about Joey. You,
meanwhile, will invite Joey over to help you with your Marine Bio homework.
You'll ask you work on the docks, and once your done with that, you can thank
her by doing what you will. I don't care if you kiss her or have sex with
her. Either way, I want her out of the way. And we both get what we want."
Pacey rubbed his hands together.
"Smithers, this will be very good," he said in a Mr. Burns voice.
On Monday when school resumed, Jen went to Dawson's locker to make sure she
was there before he was. She made sure she was wearing the "right stuff", and
rolled up her skirt a little TOO high as Dawson approached.
"Hey Dawson," she drawled as he opened his locker. He sighed happily and
didn't look at her as he said,
"Hey Jen."
Jen narrowed her eyesbrows, but then calmed down.
"Dawson, I was wondering... would you come over and help me study for the
history test tonight?"
Dawson finally looked at her, but a little strangely.
"Yeah, I guess so. If Joey doesn't want me to go out tonight, why not?"
Dawson cracked a smile and Jen gave him a big grin.
"Great. I'll see you later, Dawson," she said and walked away, swinging her
hips for all she was worth. But Dawson didn't really notice. He saw his
girlfriend walking down the hall, wearing the tightest, shortest black skirt
he had ever seen, a white tanktop, and black and white platforms. Her long
dark hair was twisted up in a white butterfly clip, and she let it out as she
neared her boyfriend. It was totally unlike her. In way of greeting, Joey
walked up to Dawson and kissed him, hard, on the lips. When she let go of
him, he looked more than a little embarassed.
"Joey, I think I need to use the bathroom after this," he squeaked.
"You like?" she asked with a sly smile.
"Oh God, yeah, but what brought this on?"
"I took a little trip to the mall last night, and decided to try something
different for a change. I thought you'd like it."
"You look fantastic... more than fantstic!" Dawson exclaimed. Joey pressed
herself up against him as she saw Pacey coming up behind them, and said loud
enough for Pacey to hear,
"Just wait till you see what I have on underneath this..." Then she kissed
him lightly and sauntered away with a wave over her shoulder.
"Whoah, Dawson, my man, what have you done to our dear friend Joey?" Pacey
asked.
"I don't know, but I certainly like it!" Dawson answered enthusiastically.
Pacey clapped him on the shoulder.
"Obi-Wan has taught you well," he said in a Darth Vader voice. They both
laughed, then Pacey continued, "Hey, can I borrow Joey tonight? We have a
marine bio test coming up and she is WAY better than I am at that."
"Sure, man. Jen asked me to come over tonight anyway, so it's not a problem,"
Dawson answered.
"Great. I'll see ya later, k?" Pacey said as he began to walk away.
"Sure."
But Pacey was feeling a little guilty about what he was going to do to his
best friend.
Later that day...
Dawson sat in film class, not really listening to Mr. Gold. He was thinking
about Joey and her new clothes and attitude. God, she had no idea - well,
maybe she did - of how they made him think of her now. And her last statement
had surprised and elated him. He fantasized about his girlfriend and
himself... Listening to music on his bed, something really romantic, like
Selena's "Dreaming of You" or Celine Dion's "Power of Love", kissing. He
brought her down to lay on his bed, and pulled that tiny little thing they
called a shirt off. She lifted his shirt over his head and ran her hands over
his chest. Then he reached behind her back and unclasped her bra...
Wait a second! he thought to himself... There are less than ten minutes left
of class, and I DESPERATELY need to use the bathroom.
There was no way he could do anything to relieve himself in class, and there
was no way he would be able to get up and go to the bathroom without
embarassing himself. So he began to think of the Beatles' song, "I Am The
Walrus".
...Custard dripping from a dead dogs eye...
That did it, and Babe Ruth went to the dugout for at least another inning.
Dawson focused in on Mr. Gold's discussion, and tried with all of his being to
keep Joey out of his mind until he could get to the bathroom.
Joey wasn't having much of a better time than Dawson was. She stared out into
space as her Marine Biology teacher discussed what was going to be on the test
tomorrow. Her new look had conjured up some thoughts about her boyfriend...
Her mind drifted to the place that had a sign saying: SEX WITH BOYFRIEND; DO
NOT TOUCH. She broke the mental barrier and proceeded into the depths of her
mind. Joey imagined she and Dawson on his bed, kissing like the world would
end any moment. He pulled off her tank top and she lifted his shirt over his
head. She felt the muscle in his chest and arms and he reached for the clasp
of her bra. He undid the clasp and went to pull it off her shoulders...
HOLD ON! Joey thought to herself. None of this in class. But tonight, I'm
going to tell Dawson that I'm ready.
The lunch bell rang, and Dawson jetted out of his class to find Joey and sit
with her. He found her already sitting in the caf, with Pacey and Jen.
Dawson walked over to them. Joey turned her head up and Dawson leaned down to
kiss her.
"We have to talk," Dawson whispered against her lips.
"Mmm," Joey murmurred in agreement. They pulled apart and Dawson sat down
next to Joey.
"So," Pacey began, "Dawson and I were talking this morning. Joey, could you
help me study for that Marine Bio test tomorrow?"
"Well, I kinda wanted to talk to Dawson tonight..." Joey started to say.
"That's ok, Jo, you can go ahead. I'm going over to help Jen with history
tonight, so it's no problem," Dawson answered.
"This is great," Jen said with a smile, "I can finally do all right on a
history test."
"Then it's settled," Dawson commenced, "What time do you want me to come over,
Jen?"
"Is 7:00 all right?"
"Fine. Pacey, when do you need my girlfriend?" Dawson asked with a smile at
Joey. She blushed.
"Seven okay?" Pacey inquired in Joey's direction.
"Yeah, I guess so," she answered.
"Perfect," Dawson said. They continued a quiet conversation about nothing
while Dawson's hand, controlled by overwhelming hormones, moved up Joey's leg
until she swatted him away.
After school, Jen went right to her room to prepare for the big night. Her
grandmother was out of town at a gardener's workshop, so Jen had the house to
herself for another two days.
She brought out over a hundred white candles, all in different sizes and
shapes. She placed them all over the room. Jen picked up the phone.
"Hi, I'd like to have four dozen roses delivered to..." She gave her address
and the woman on the line said that it would be about two hours. Jen thanked
her and hung up.
She went to her closet and pushed her clothes over until she found some of the
things she had from New York. She went through the hangers one by one,
looking over each piece. Then, she finally chose a red silk nightgown with a
scoop neck and spaghetti straps...
Pacey, on the other hand, didn't care much for the romantic aspect of the
evening. All he cared about was that he would finally get a little piece of
the happiness in the world. It was about time. Even if it would hurt his
best friend.
7:00 that evening at Jen's...
"Jen, what the hell's the matter with you?!?!" Dawson exclaimed as he ripped
his mouth away from Jen's. She smiled saucily at him and proceeded to slip
out of the nightgown.
"Dawson, honey, don't try and tell me different. I know what you want, all
guys want it. Just because Joey won't give it to you, doesn't mean I won't,"
she answered.
"I thought we were studying," Dawson said as he looked away from Jen's almost
naked form.
"You are so gullable, Dawson. This was all a scheme, don't you get it? I
took you over here so Pacey could get it on with Joey," Jen laughed.
Dawson's eyes went wide, and he rushed out of the house without another word,
leaving a from the waist up naked Jen to wonder why it didn't work.
7:00 at Pacey's house...
"I really appreciate you coming over here, Jo," Pacey said as he led her up to
his room.
"No problem," she answered nonchalantly.
"In fact, I appreciate it so much..." Pacey turned to her and kissed her
fully on the lips. Joey tried to pull away from him, but he was too strong
for her. She let out a little "MMMPH!", but he didn't let go. When he
finally did, she slapped him so hard across the face that he would have a
black and blue mark of her handprint there in the morning.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" she cried.
"Getting what should have been mine in the first place," Pacey answered,
nearing her again.
"Stay away from me," Joey whispered as she was backed up against the wall in
his room. She tried not to shake as he came forward and his hormones took
control.
"Are you scared of me, Joey?" Pacey asked quietly, but with a devilish smile.
"Yes, Pacey, let go of me!" Joey exclaimed when he gripped her wrists.
"I never should have let you go," Pacey said right before he pressed his mouth
savagely against hers.
Just then Pacey felt an excruciating pain between his legs. He dropped Joey's
wrists and she jetted out of the house, leaving Pacey to comfort himself.
Dawson was just past his front door when he saw a tear-streaked Joey running
up the path to his house. He caught her in his arms and she sobbed on his
shoulder. Dawson's cheeks had tears on them to as he kissed the top of her
head and tightened his arms around her.
"Shh... I know what happened. Just cry, it's all right," he said consolingly.
But there wasn't much that could comfort his girlfriend.
"I - I n-never knew P-Pacey could b-b-be like that!" Joey managed before
breaking out into sobs that broke Dawson's heart.
"What did he do?" he asked quietly.
"I th-think he would ha-have r-r-ra... Dawson, I'm scared!" came Joey's
muffled response. Anger and guilt flared up in her boyfriend.
"I'll never let him touch you again, sweetheart, ever. I just wish I could
have been there to stop him sooner," Dawson said.
"Take me upstairs," Joey said in a choked-up voice, "I don't want to go home
tonight."
"Of course. Come on," Dawson answered, and scooped her up in his arms. She
felt lighter than a feather at that moment, and Dawson had no trouble carrying
her up to his room. His parents were in the living room, and looked at him
concernedly as he brought Joey upstairs, but he mouthed to them that it would
be all right. They nodded, knowing that their son could take care of Joey.
Dawson layed Joey on the bed and took off her shoes. She wasn't wearing the
skirt and top she had had on earlier in the day, but a pair of jeans and a
loose dark green tank top. When Dawson looked up, he saw that she was asleep.
He debated in his head for a moment, and then began to take off her jeans,
top, and bra. He tried not to look, but it was too hard - Joey was incredibly
beautiful. But it could wait, and Dawson slipped her into one of his dress
shirts. Then he stripped down to his boxers and climbed into bed with the
love of his life. He tucked her under his chin and held her tightly. She
snuggled deeper into his embrace.
Before he fell asleep, Dawson thought of a song he had heard earlier in the
day.
"Late at night when all the world is sleeping
I stay up and think of you
And I wish on a star
That somewhere you are thinking
Of me to...
Cause I'm dreaming of you tonight
Till tomorrow I'll be holding you tight
And there's no where in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room
Dreaming about you and me..."
Jen's room...
Jen layed on her bed with tears in her eyes, listening to the radio:
"Wonder if you ever see me and I
Wonder if you know I'm there
If you looked in my eyes
Would you see what's inside would you
Even care
I just wanna hold you close but so far
All I have are dreams of you
So I'll wait for the day
And the courage to say how much
I love you, Yes I do..."
Pacey's room...
Pacey sat on his bed, deep in thought as the radio played in the background.
He tuned into it for a moment:
"I'll be dreaming of you tonight
Till tomorrow
I'll be holding you tight
And there's no where in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room
Dreaming about you and me..."
Back in Dawson's room, Dawson thought of the last few lines of the song:
"Late at night when all the world is sleeping
I stay up and think of you
And I still can't believe
That you came up to me and said
I love you, I love you to...
Now I'm dreaming with you tonight
Till tomorrow and for all of my life
And there's no where in the world I'd rather be
Than here in my room,
Dreaming with you and asleep."
He would never let anything hurt Joey, but for now, he just enjoyed the
peaceful hours he had with her. Because tomorrow, things would be anything
BUT peaceful.
THE END!!!
