Part Three

Lucy sat up in her bed and glanced at the clock by her bed. "5.25am", the numerals shone in blue at her. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and peered into the darkness at the sleeping figures of Tyra and Peggy. Looks like Mr. Sandman had been doing his job well, she thought with a smile on her face. She stepped over Tyra's body and helped Peggy pull her blanket, which had fallen off, up over her body. Peggy stirred a little and Lucy held her breath, hoping that she wouldn't awaken, to her relief, Peggy just turned over and started snoozing again.

Lucy crept into the bathroom and turned on the lights. The bright light contrasted with the darkness of the room and she shielded her eyes quickly. She managed to find her way to the basin and freezing cold runnng water poured out of the tap. Shuddering at the coldness of the streaming water, she forced herself to splash some onto her face. Her eyes opened almost immediately after contact with the water and she looked into the mirror, at her reflection. Big eyes, with double eyelids glared back at her. She used her finger to trace down the mirror and her gaze followed her fingers as it passed the reflection of her rather sharp nose and pouty, well-shaped lips. Seeing the reflection of herself smile back at her, she wished that she could look like how she looked now every single second of the day. Somehow a certain serenity flowed over her and she felt like the most gorgeous woman on earth. But she suddenly flashed back to the sleeping figures on her bedroom floor and rolled her eyes when she thought about how beautiful Tyra and Peggy were and decided that she couldn't hold a candle to them. Tyra with her incredible figure and talent in pulling guys and Peggy with her easy to get along with character and beautiful features, she just seemed like a plain Jane next to them. She sighed and took out her toothbrush and started brushing her teeth.

Lucy threw a look back at the duo before creeping downstairs into the kitchen to take the frozen bacon out of the fridge, so that it could be thawed for breakfast. She also needed a drink for her dry and raspy throat. She had decided not to on the kitchen lights as the reflection of the light would be able to travel upstairs by the mirrors adourning the hall and brighten the corridor upstairs. She didn't want to risk waking anyone up. Groping through the kitchen, she finally reached the fridge and took out the bacon and milk, she left the fridge door open so that the light from it would enable her to find a cup and place the bacon by the basin, so that it wouldn't make such a mess. She poured the milk out, shut the fridge door and proceeded to the living room and added a log into the dying fire. Grabbing the poker, she moved the red hot cinders about the log and tried to relight the fire. Soon, a tiny fire was crackling in the hearth and she walked to the cushions in front of the fireplace and sat there, enjoying whatever little warmth the fire provided and hugging a cushion. She started to think about the basketball game with Nick and Brian last night.

They had won all right, and Brian seemed kind of sore at first, but he was okay after a while and even challenged them to a game again sometime within the week. Lucy had smiled an agreement, but it wasn't this that had made Lucy's heart pound faster and faster until it almost exploded. It wasn't this that made Lucy feel so special everytime she got a ball through the net and made her smile at anytime during the game. It was Nick. By some amazing luck, Lucy played wonderfully last night, scoring about fifteen balls. Each time she did, Nick would come running towards her and give her a high five and a wink. She felt all soft inside again whenever he came close to her and smiled at her, giving her words of encouragement. She was on cloud nine last night and she hoped that Nick couldn't see what she felt. She smiled when she thought about how Nick had scored his first goal. She threw the ball towards the net, but it missed, both Brian and Nick jumped up and tried to do a rebound but the two ended up crashing into each other. However Nick, with his determination, got up immediately, ran after the ball and made sure that he slammed dunk it into the net. He was grinning and yelling away with joy and Brian just sat on the ground and laughed with him. Lucy stood by the side of the court, worried at first about whether they were hurt, but soon she found herself laughing along with them and that was enough to loosen her up for the rest of the game.

When Lucy made the final goal for the both of them, she would never forget what happened next. Nick picked her up and gave her a huge hug. She slipped her hands around his neck and his arms found their way around her tiny waist. They were both smiling away but soon Lucy's smile faded when she realised that the both of them were in a position which she had been dreaming of when she first saw him. Her hand brushed against the nape of his neck as she stared deep into his eyes. Nick seemed hesitant at first but he slowly drew his head nearer to hers, his arms tightened around her waist and he felt Lucy's hand push his fringe away from his eyes. Oh my God, Lucy had thought. Is this really happening? Her eyes snapped open when she realised that he was going to kiss her. But somehow Nick's eyes managed to calm her down and reassure her. She relaxed and just as Nick's lips were about to touch hers, a voice called out, "Hey guys, are you ready to go up yet?" The both of them snapped their heads to the side and looked at Brian, looking irritatedly at him. Nick was about to say something to Brian, but stopped himself. He pulled himself away from Lucy, looked at her in the eyes and said, "Yeah Rok, we are coming." He gave her an apologetic smile before grabbing her hand and pulling her upstairs. Lucy had been disappointed, but she knew now that Nick had shared the same passion with her. The same hungry fire that was eating away at them. The passionate fire of love.

A creaking sound made by the floor upstairs interrupted her thoughts and she turned around immediately and stood up, looking at the stairs, hoping that it was only Peggy, and not anyone else, especially not Nick. She couldn't imagine what she would say to him at that moment. Alas, Nick's slim structure soon appeared at the base of the stairs and he looked at her, surprised to see her downstairs too. She gave him a shy smile and bit her lower lip, not knowing what to do. She started tugging at her silk barbie doll nightie, realising that it showed too much leg and immediately regretted letting the girls choose her nightgown for her.

"Hey! You're awake too?" Nick asked her in a loud whisper and put on a goofy smile before adding, "Guess that was a stupid question." Lucy grinned and nodded her head.

"I hope I wasn't the one who woke you up. I couldn't sleep much this morning as..." She shut her mouth and shifted her gaze away from him, blushing away. She knew the reason very well, but he was the last person she would tell why.

"As...?" Nick asked innocently as he walked over to her. She felt his gaze on her face and looked up. He was standing near her and his eyes burned deep into hers. She didn't reply. Suddenly she felt extremely weak in the knees as she struggled to keep herself in focus. She pulled at her nightie unconsciously again and Nick's eyes fluttered away from hers and down her body. He breathed deeply and said "Woah!" under his breath.

"What?!" She asked consciously and tried desperately to get her nightie to hide as much of her legs as possible. Not working, she thought. He gave her a huge grin and stepped up towards her and whispered into her ear, "Nice legs." She turned a bright red and spun around and started walking towards the stairs.

"Hey!" He grabbed her arm and pulled her back towards him. She looked at him with surprise and he let go of her slowly. He swallowed the lump in his throat and started, "Where are you going? You're not mad at me, are you? I meant it as a compliment, not as anything else. I was not being cheeky." He suddenly burst into a smile, "Not much anyway." She gave him a tiny smile and said, "I just wanted to go and change into something better, you know? Something that doesn't show too much of my legs?" She looked down at her legs and winced. Skinny, knobbly legs, she thought, How could anyone ever want to see them? She felt his hand touch her cheek and she inhaled deeply and silently, goosebumps appeared on her arms when she felt his soft, gentle touch. He gently raised her face up so that their eyes met and he said, "You are beautiful, you know that?" He then took off his jacket and placed them around her shivering figure even though she wasn't shivering because of the cold. He took this oppurtunity to wrap his arms around her and bring her tiny frame towards him.

"This is good, there's no Brian around now," he whispered and she gave a little giggle and looked into his beautiful blue eyes. His eyes suddenly turned serious but gentle at the same time and she knew what was coming. She closed her eyes as his lips touched her lips. They kissed gently at first, but then the kiss grew more urgent and more passionate. She brought her hands to his face and cupped the side of it and he allowed his hands to slide down her back and pull her closer to him. His lips were sweet, so sweet and she breathed in his masculine smell as the kiss started to end. Their lips finally parted and she loved the feel of his soft lips lingering on her own and looked lovingly into his eyes. They smiled, both contented and he took her hand and brought her before the fireplace and sat her down there. Then, the both of them snuggled up together and closed their eyes, enjoying the warmth of the flames, together.
