Q: What are the uses of galls in folk medicine?
A: There are three types of galls known in folk medicine: From Sage bushes, from Pistacia Palestina, and from Artemisia Herba-alba. The Pistacia galls are rich in tinine, and are used for tanning skins, and curing skin diseases, like athlete's foot.
See more about Sage bush galls in the herbal list.
Q: 26 years old, suffers from very cold hands and fingers, and sensitivity to cold (as if there is no blood flow) in the fingers. Often gets cold burns.
A: The best way to treat a sensation of constant chill in the fingers and hands, and no blood flow to the fingers, is by using the plant Urtica Pilulifera (Stinging Nettle). This may sound cruel, but it is very effective:
Pick a plant using gloves, and beat hands and fingers lightly. It is important to do so soon after the harvest, for the burning effect of the hairs on the leaves is canceled after about an hour and a half. You'll immediatly feel a strong burning sensation, but do not be alarmed, it passes in a few minutes, and afterward you feel a sense of relief . Your hands will warm up, and blood flows to your fingers.
Thank you and get well,
Nissim
