Joseph
Vella studied with the well-known soloist Freddie Mizzi for
several years. Attended
International Saxophone Master Classes in England and Austria with
Saxophonists Eugene Rousseau (USA) and Jean-Yves Fourmeau
(France). Followed
a two-year course in Saxophone playing and other disciplines at the
Conservatoire National de Region de Lyon in France, with renowned
Saxophonists Serge Bichon, Jean-Denis Michat and Fabrizio Mancuso. Continued
for three more years at the Conservatoire National de Region de Poitiers
with Gilles Tressos. Studied
also solfege, chamber music and orchestral playing. Attended
master classes in quartet playing and contemporary improvisation. Played
as a soloist on several occasions both in public and on television. Introduced
in Malta the Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra by Ronald Binge during
a concert held in honour of His Excellency The President of the
Portugese Republic and Mrs Mario Soares at the Manoel Theatre. Played
during the 5th Malta International Choir Festival at the
Mediterranean Conference Centre. Introduced the Sonata for Alto
Saxophone and Piano during the Grand Millennium Concert organized by the
Malta Cultural Institute. Took part in a concert to commemorate the
thirtieth anniversary of the National Council of Women. Played with the
Manoel Theatre Orchestra and the National Orchestra. Appeared on
television on the 6th November to mark the date of birth of
Adolph Sax, inventor of the Saxophone. Promoted the use of the Saxophone
in chamber music through the formation of a Saxophone Quartet. Took
part in numerous concerts as a soloist as well as with Saxopone
Quartets, Saxophone Ensembles, Wind Orchestras, Jazz Orchestras and
Symphonic Orchestras in France. Participated in public performances of
improvised music and dancing. Several
years of teaching experience in Malta and abroad. 8.6.01 |
