The Ringtail Possum is a shy, nocturnal animal. Its colouring can range from a dull grey, dull fawn to red. All ringtails have a white tip on the last third of their tails. Adults weigh between 500 grams and 1 kilogram. Ringtails live in family groups in dreys constructed of shredded bark, twigs and leaves built or nestled in forks of trees or dense shrubbery. They feed on the shoots and flowers of native plants. Unlike the Brushtail Possum, Ringtails are rarely reported living in roof cavities. However, they often take up residence in suburban gardens and can be seen at night scampering along power lines looking for food.
