"Hebrew Word Pictures"

The picture on this web site is entitled "The Three Gossips". It is interesting that the rock formation actually looks like tall people talking to one another.

Alot is said amiss, with authority, when it comes to gossip. People have a tendency to be judgmental, indicating they themselves are above doing such and such. The Hebrew letter Lamed means control, authority and the tongue. These stories are told with authority and do control the people that are spoken of.

I remember a story I was told when I was a child which was about a woman shaking a feather pillow into the wind.

The woman tried very hard to gather all the feathers to put back into the pillow but could not, no matter how hard she tried.

Gossip and feathers have alot in common, they scatter with the wind, never to return from their place of origin.

The Vav means to add or to secure.

Stories never are repeated quite the same as when they were shared. It seems that some emotions creep in and exaggerations are added also and secured to the story as truth.

And the Noon means activity or life.

It's sad to say, but gossip seems to be a common activity of life. I have shared information about my sons with others, because I was proud of their accomplishments. But I learned that my sons did not like to be talked about, even if I thought it was harmless information. I did not look at this as gossip but, they did. I try very hard not to do this anymore, but I probably slip up every so often.

The word la-shon means the tongue. The word picture tells us that the tongue is the rod that devours and establishes life.
