Maltby (Rother Valley) Lions at Christmas
The Santa Sleigh
Each Christmas we organise a house-to-house and street collection for charity. Members of the Club, assisted by volunteers follow a Santa Claus sleigh around the streets of the local villages collecting donations.
This has become a such a tradition over more than twenty years, that many people we meet on our rounds say that the appearance on the streets of our sleigh signals the start of Christmas. This is most gratifying to hear.
The Carol Concert
Alongside this event, which takes us almost two weeks, we hold a Carol Concert for pensioners from Braithwell, Maltby and Dinnington, at Rother Valley College (now called RCAT) by kind consent of the College Principal. At this event the pensioners are entertained with an afternoon of singing by Anston Male Voice Choir. During the interval afternoon tea is served and a raffle is organised.
Our thanks
In order for our Christmas events to be a success we rely upon the help of partners, friends and other organisations such as the British Legion, Maltby Running Club, the Haynook Football team, Anston Male Voice Choir, numerous residents' associations and in past years, Dinnington Theatre Club. return to Home Page
