A body engine swaps

This section will give you factory part numbers and leads on aftermarket suppliers that will allow various engines to be swapped into various A bodies. The 1967-76 A bodies can accomodate any CC engine using factory parts. The 1966 and earlier A bodies are best suited to Slant Sixes and LA engines due to the smaller engine compartment.

Notes:

The 1966 and earlier A bodies cannot use the 67 and later K members. The 67-76 K members are interchangeable with a caution regarding swaybar mounting. The 67 idler arm mount is considered weaker than 68 and newer. 73 and newer use a safety spool type engine mount that is better than the earlier biscuit style.

Notes:

(*) You can use a modified 273/318 left side bracket, the right side is the same, see the MP Chassis book for details.
(#) Use the 68-69 brackets

The engine brackets used must fit the K member used. In example, you cannot use 68-69 B/RB brackets with an LA K member of any year. You can try running these through Partsvoice to see if any are in stock. Most likely you will have to hit the boneyards and swap meets.

Notes:

1964-72 insulators are of the rubber biscuit style. 73-76 are the complete spool type engine mounts. The insulator part number is dependent on the K member AND engine bracket combination.

General information

The above numbers are for factory parts. Most good aftermarket suppliers will be able to cross the Chrysler numbers over to their part number. I highly recommend American made parts. All numbers were gotten form the MP Chassis book. If you wish to swap a B/RB into a 73-76 A body you will need to use the 67-69 B/RB K member, engine brackets, and insulators. An alternative is the aftermarket motor mounts kits made by Schumacher Creative Services and/or Street Master.

Aftermarket swap kits

There are at least two aftermarket manufacturers I am aware of that make kits to swap engines into A bodies. Schumacher Creative Services makes kits to install an LA engine into 64-66 A bodies, 67-72 A body LA engine on a Slant Six K member, and 67-72 A body B/RB on a Slant Six K member or an LA K member. Call them for more info. The other supplier, Street Master, makes kits to install a B/RB into a 73-76 A body that has an LA K member. This kit will also work on F, J, and M bodies. As for contact info for them, well I don't get any bennies for it so I suggest getting just about any current Mopar oriented magazine and you'll see them there.
