Well here is where you will find out how to do things to your Escort. Whether it's custom or installing an aftermarket part, I'll put it up. If you have any tricks you would like to share or if you see something on my car that you want to know how to do, e-mail me. Coming soon: how to open your doors w/o door handles.
I've recently gotten a few e-mails about my brake lights. It seems that they look clear in some of the pictures. Well, sorry to dissapoint you guys but they're just painted. If anybody does find out that clear brake lens' are available for Escorts, let me know!
Anyways, people still want to know how I painted the brake lens'. First let me tell you that you might get a few problems with cops. I got lots of warnings and one ticket (I took it to court and got it thrown out) for this, so don't be surprised if you get harrassed.
The first thing your gonna have to do is find some spray paint that matches the color of your car. Then you clean up your lens' and find some circular objects that you can trace onto the tape. They don't have to be circular, you can use whatever shape you want. Then cut out the shapes and place them where you want them on the lens. You might want to take the lens off before painting them, but it's not neccesary. Just make sure that you tape everything off good. Then spray, let it dry, take the tape off and your done!
Note:You should also paint the reflectors on the trunk too so that they match the brake lens'. If your not ready to paint the brake lens', at least paint these reflectors. I recently took the paint off the brake lens' and it still looked pretty good with just the painted reflectors.
A lot of people have been e-mailing me lately and asking me where I got my clear corner lens' so figured this would make a good how-to article.
First of all, as far as I know nobody makes clear corners for the Escort. So if you want some, you gotta go custom.
First you got to find some Mercury Tracer corners. Go to a junkyard, go to the Ford dealer, or convince your friend with the Tracer that your solid orange corner lens' will make his car look dope.
Next you just take off the corners from both cars and cut the wires from the bulb assemblies. Switch the bulbs(your gonna need the clear bulbs to make the the corners look clear), put the corners on the cars, and connect up the wires.
Now your corner lens' are pretty much clear except for a small reflective part that you gotta paint or get color matched sticker to cover (see image). Wasn't that fun?
Finally, another tech-tip! I actually got three e-mails in one day asking how I tuck 16's without rubbing the rear fenders. This is pretty much inevitable when running taller and wider wheels after dropping your Escort. So how'd I do it? Read on....
This is actually very easy. You just stick a broomstick (or something similar) between the outside of the tire and the inside of the fender (see image) and have somebody start up your car and roll it back and forth. This will roll in that lip inside of the fender and roll out the entire fender, giving you much more clearence. That's it!
Remember, if you have any questions about how I did something to my ride, just send me an e-mail and I'll write up a how-to. Back to home.
