2/17/98 "Repentance"

• Mark 2:1-5
  • Must have gratitude in all situations
  • Cannot let circumstances shake your joy / faith (1)
• 2 Corinthians 7:10-11
  • Godly sorrow brings repentance => salvation (Peter)
  • Worldly sorrow brings death => (Judas)
  • Godly sorrow brings change in attitude => Brings indignation & alarm to your character; being concerned with these alarms(2)
• What is real repentance?

  • Saul's radical "turn-a-round" => changed all things in his character(3)
  • What does God see in your character that is ungodly that you need to change?
  • Take good characteristics and rechannel them to glorify God!
  • Deny yourself of sinful habbits => *If you fall into sin, repent & grow out of your old skin of sin.
  • Through repentance you will only be able to confront your sin & at the same time become closer to God!
• Matthew 5:29 & 30 => radical attitude toward sin
• Acts 3:17-20 => repentance is refreshment

1. What does this have to do with the story in the Scripture cited, about a paralytic's friends lowering him through the roof of a house where Jesus was preaching? Read Mark 2:1-5 for yourself, and you'll probably be as nonplussed by these conclusions as I was. Perhaps this has something to do with a remark I made shortly before the study that I found the gloom weather depressing.

2. It's interesting to notice that they stressed indignation and alarm, but appear to have neglected other charactestics listed in this passage: earnestness, eagerness to clear yourself, longing, concern, and readiness to see justince done.

3. Actually, if you study the book of Acts, you will see that many of Saul's traits remained the same before and after conversion.
