My Poetry

I've written a number of poems that relate to my experience in the ICC. Some of them are a bit disturbing; I was disturbed more than once when I realized what I'd written. These were all written at various times after leaving the ICC; I did have an idea for a poem while in the ICC, but I never finished it.

Grace

They put my life on trial
And whipped me with my sin,
Tried to force out a denial,
Said Christ won't let me in!

No, they can't take grace away!
No, they can't take grace away!

Freely shed and free to all,
Freely to redeem the fall,
It can't be earned to receive,
Freely given if you believe

They told me how I'd failed,
Said my faith can't be,
But for my sins He was nailed,
He died for the sins of me!

No, they can't take grace away!
No, they can't take grace away!

Freely shed and free to all,
Freely to redeem the fall,
It can't be earned to receive,
Freely given if you believe

Poison Sumac

You said you were my friend
I thought I could trust you to the end
But that was when I never knew
The evil behind the mask of "you"
You trick, you lie, you decieve
You poisoned all that I believe
I'm the soul you almost sold
I'm the tool you couldn't hold
I'm the part that broke your mold
I'm the tale you don't want told
You thought I could not see
Behind your talk to the lies
You'll find there's another half of me
You're now all that I despise
You twisted poison sumac tree

Wolfjudge's Castle

Play the judge in whitest fleece,
Masking the inner darkest beast,
You put my faith on trial,
Wrung out my denial
Made me say I never served
No Jesus, don't deserve
To look up to Heaven's stary lights
Chained to your self-righteous hieghts

I've got to get away...
(the pain grows every day)
Fall away, run away...
(Why, I cannot say)

Let it slip, stand unmasked
Torture me for what I asked
The clocks will strike the hour
When lies erode your tower
Where you rule by command
In your castle built on sand
Say it's rock and fear the rain,
Tighten down as rust consumes my chain.

I've got to get away...
(You knew I couldn't stay)
Falling away, running away...
(To the list of a new day)

"My Way or the Highway"

You claim you're the way
And I had to follow you
Said my way or the highway,
Leave me just one thing to do...

Fire up the four-oh-nine*,
and shove it into gear
Rev it up to redline
And watch you disappear

Holding the throttle open wide,
Watching trees go flying past,
Fleeing from the twisted side
Running faster than fast

I didn't take the easy road
No matter what you said
I still carry a heavy load,
But without you adding lead

I took the Word with me,
I need to light the way,
Leaving you to be set free,
Waving back while I speed away

* A 409 is an early big block Chevy. I couldn't fit any Chrysler engine into the poem, unfortunately.

Dream

Lie down, eyes are closed, and
journey down to never never land
Surrender all of your decisions
to share the glorious visions
Work to advance the kingdom
As you slowly let your mind go numb
Dream on, dreaming, dreaming still
Dreams of good now turned to ill
What you thought was love and care
Is now the iron chain you wear
Whipped and forced, must behave
To make you become their slave
They called it the Kingdom of God
Now behold who wears the crown.
