Bloom's Taxonomy

Leading to a higher thinking level.

These questions and verbs are arranged so that the most challenging are at the bottom, the least difficult are at the top. It is good to press the child's comfort envelope, but not to the breaking point. This is a simple digest of a theory. A Theory is just that, a model to build from. It is the tutor who decides how to apply the theory.

Show, Find, Change, Tell What It Is About, Describe, Give Examples What does the picture tell us?
Describe the story of the Three Little Pigs.
Tell about the most interesting or exciting part of a book you like.
Tell me what you think responsibility means.

Application

Using what you know in a new situation.
Use, Dress Up, Solve, Collect, Act Out, Put In Order, Paint. Draw a picture of the way to get to school from your house.
Collect pictures of sea animals for a scrapbook.
Make a clay model of a dinosaur.
Act out your favorite scene in the story.
Put these things in order.

Analysis

Take it apart
What Ways, Examine, Arrange, Pretend, Categorize Compare a banana with an apple.
Tell the steps needed to ride a bicycle.
In what ways were all animals the same?
Take away one of the carpenter's tools, which one could best be done without.

Synthesis

Putting something together in a new way
Improve, Make Up, Image, Pretend, What If, Suppose, Create Invent. Pretend you lived when the dinosaurs lived. Tell about your life.
Make up a poem or story and record it on a tape recorder.
Create a new plane for a bedroom you would like to have.
Invent a new/better way to do something.

Evaluation

Judging the value of information
Decide, Choose, Tell Why, Prove. Would you have acted the same way goldilocks did? why?
Choose your favorite way to walk to school. why is it the best?
Decide which you like best vegetables or fruit. Why?
Tell what you like about your picture.
