Brickwell's Vacation Album
1996

In 1996, Tom and I took our second (of many I hope) cruise!  This time we went on Holland America's Veendam, sailing out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida with stops in Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and Grand Caymen.

. We were supposed to dock in Jamaica as well, but the ship experienced "technical difficulties" and that port had to be cut from the itinerary.  We were somewhat disappointed, but that also meant we got an extra day at sea.  And since I still enjoy those as much, or more, than the ports, I didn't really mind.

In Playa del Carmen, Tom was able to fulfill a
long time ambition to visit some ancient ruins.  These photos are from the ruins of the Mayan Ceremonial Center at Tulum.

After the ruins, we took a ferry back to Cozumel, arriving just in time for a bit of shopping and an incredible sunset.

Of course, no cruise is complete without the huge buffets, and this one was no exception.  Here are a few photos from the Dessert Extravaganza!

Once we returned to Fort Lauderdale, Tom's parents, Brick and Lorrie, picked us up at the pier and we were able to spend Christmas with them in Lake Placid, Florida before flying back to the below zero temperatures of Fairbanks!!!

While staying with Tom's parents, we were able to visit my Aunt Virginia and Uncle Stanley who winter in Florida.  I had not seen them in over 20 years and so was THRILLED to find they were within a couple of hours of Lake Placid.
