New Brunswick
Joined with Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec to form the Dominion of Canada on July 1, 1867
Qaint covered bridges spanning half forgotten rivers, sturdy fishing weirs harvesting sardines from the powerful tides of the Bay of Fundy, Stately elms lining the elegant streets of Fredericton, dense forests of the Miramichi, once haunted by the Dungarvon Whooper. New Brunswick is Canada's picture province. New Brunswick was originally part of France's Acadia, a forest refuge for French speaking colonists, chased from Nova Scotia in the 1750s. In the 1780s, loyalists escaping the American Revolution founded St. Andrews and Saint John and a new British colony was born. Loyalist and Acadian traditions still dominate New Brunswick today.
The capital is Fredericton |
