stones
trapped under the vacuum
voices scratching about
baby cribs and bills
a little late for a
cold stall,
gold plated rings begin
a little nickel with every
flushing door against the frame.
dust gathers on childhood
dolls and screams, after-
school specials:
daddy didn't leave
we were skipping stones
on the lakefront...
last night.
loud ladies linger round
card table to build
bridge -mostly talk
rumor: Nancy and Stan
and their
*poor little baby girl.
caught under wrinkled sheets
clinging to brass suspicion
of my years without
quiet.
