Eponine's "Les Mis"
Eponine appears very briefly in the beginning of the story. As a child she is not greatly featured in the novel and seen once in the musical. Her parents, the Thénardiers, own an inn and have been entrusted with the care of a little girl Cosette. Cosette's mother sends money but this is spent on Eponine and her sister while Cosette is treated as a skivvy. It is when the story moves on 10 years and reaches Paris that Eponine really comes in to it.
In Paris Eponine is friends with a student called Marius with whom she is secretly in love but he sees her as merely a friend. However, Eponine is part of her fathers gang of thieves. One day, the gang attempt to rob Jean Valjean, who took Cosette from the Thénardiers. Marius is there talking to Eponine and Cosette is there with Valjean. They see each other and fall in love. The police officer Javert appears and everyone dissappears. Later Marius asks Eponine about Cosette and reluctantly Eponine agrees to take him to see her. While they are there Thenardier's gang try and rob the house but Eponine screams to stop them. Valjean is an ex-convict and he thinks it was Cosette screaming because she saw Javert. He decides they should leave. Marius is to fight at the barricades with his fellow students but when he hears Cosette is leaving he is torn between loyalty to his friends and wanting to follow his love. He writes Cosette a letter. He spots Eponine at the barricade, disguised as a boy, and gives her the letter to deliver. He tells Eponine that she shouldn't be at the barricade as she could get killed. Eponine delivers the letter and, fatally, decides to go back to Marius. She is shot returning to the barricades and dies in Marius' arms

EPONINE - Late teens/early 20's. Daughter of the Thénardiers. Very pretty. Fired by an unrequited love for Marius. A heartbreaking waif with an enormous and beautiful belt voice (to C in chest, sings to E flat)
