St Michael's Church

Where? - Located in the centre of Munich, close to the shopping district on Neuhauserstrasse.

How to get there? - U-Bahn : Marienplatz.

Opening times - Please note the odd opening times of the Royal Vault.

Opened May to October. Closed other months.

• Monday to Friday - 10:00 am till 1:00 pm, then 3:00 pm till 4:45 pm.

• Saturday - 10:00 am till 3:00 pm.

What to see? - This is the largest Renaissance church north of the Alps, built together with the Jusuit College next to it, between 1597 and 1644. After terrible damage during WW2, it has been magnificently restored.

On June 19th, 1886, Ludwig was laid to rest in the crypt of this church after a long State Funeral. Besides Ludwig II, forty other members of the Wittelsbach dynasty are buried in the Royal Vault. He also lay in State inside the church before the funeral.
