#2 in a series:
The "right" price

Did you actually click on this banner?

Well...who can resist a bargain? Especially when it comes to the the things we really need: flamenco guitars, flamenco costumes, castanets etc.
Unfortunately a lot of the things we flamencos need are made exclusively in Spain which puts us at the mercy of those who make the effort of buying and shipping guitars, dresses, castanets what have you from Spain to _____________(fill in your country).
The best piece of advice I can give is: "SHOP AROUND" A lot of the time those of us who have never been to Spain, myself included, have only the vaguest idea how much these imported things really cost. And I have nothing against marking up the price slightly to cover the cost of shipping and making a small profit--otherwise none of this flamenco stuff would be available outside of Spain.
One thing I do know is that none of this stuff is cheap. My first guess at the price of a recent purchase was off by 80 percent! Take for example the price of a decent pair of wooden or fiberglass castanets. I thought to myself....OK, two pieces of hand-carved wood tied together by a string....US$25 a pair, right? Well the one I was looking at turned out to be US$45! And this was just your basic castanet. I discovered that they can range into the US$100 prices! I checked with some knowledgable dancers and sure enough that was pretty much the going rate. Well I couldn't shop around so instead I asked around and was relieved to learn that I paid a decent price.
End of sermon. With that in mind, take a look at my flamenco shopping page:
Let's go shopping!
