MYRTLE BEACH: BASH 2
© By Becky
The call then went out again to meet
This time let there be with a little less heat
So May was decided we then did comply
Our hope that this one month would be dry
We planned and we saved to make the trip
Hoping against hope there would be no slip
We almost made it down to the wire
Hubby wrenched his back changing a tire
I just about murdered him I do declare
To miss this bash it wouldn't be fair
The thing that got me really raging mad
It wasn't our tire, what's makes it so bad
He yelled and hollered the air turned blue
He's usually quite peaceful so this was new
Then an ambulance came to take him away
After getting a shot he had nothing to say
The test would show no damage to declare
I got him a walker and told him I did dare
That he get better quick or that he would
Go to the bash tied to the front of my hood
The time finally came to get ready to leave
Deciding what to take was hard to achieve
The nights would be cool and the days warm
Took just about everything t’would do no harm
Our grandson we had told if honor roll met
We'd take him with us, he did, all was set
Our truck, packed, could hold nothing more
One more item I'd end up down on the floor
Well we started the trip a little past noon
Picked up the kid, then off we did zoom
It started to rain, we'd been in a drought
It would start now when we just started out
Made good time an Aunt we stopped to see
Looked in the bible, adding to the family tree
Next day we were back on the road once more
When from behind us we heard this great roar
There were dozens of them as they passed us by
Some waved, some smiled but most just said hi
Riders of the classiest bikes I had ever seen
My old hubby's eyes, my they sure did gleam
Could tell he would love to be out there with them
On our son's big Valkyerie and let the air stream
Around his shoulders and legs it would blow
Well, forget it my friend, the answer is a big no
You screwed up your back, the blame is your own
You are just lucky, I didn't leave you at home
His eyes back on the road with a little regret
Kid sticks his head up, are we about there yet?
For the next hundred miles the question the same
Just a little while longer play one of your games
Then we entered the town we'd traveled to reach
We're here once again, back in North Myrtle Beach
Then I saw a few friends from last year I'd met
Lord I look a mess I can't greet them just yet
So we go to the room to shower and dress
To meet by the pool to hug and to address
The wonderful folks we had met, got to know
All trying to speak at once, our faces aglow
Meeting the new ones we had met only online
Was really quite wonderful, we all got along fine
We talked and gossiped of things from last year
How things were now going, some shed a tear
Like meeting family, we'd not seen for so long
Murmuring, soft laughter, we felt we belonged
The time came to part we all went our own way
Time to go out to dinner, we'd all meet next day
My hubby and grandson headed out to the sea
But my friend the pillow was just waiting for me
Grandson came in making terrible faces at me
"Why didn't you tell me it was so salty" said he
I looked at him and couldn't believe my own ears
I said that is where God catches all mama's Tears
Well, he looked at me as though I had gone nuts
But to tell the truth I just didn't have the guts
To explain why so much salt was in there the sea
Cause I really just can't remember don't you see
The next morning, got up to meet the new dawn
Opened up the drapes and heard a loud moan
Hubby flipped over and buried his gray head
Under the covers and pillows there on the bed
There were some folks early out on the beach
Picking up shells while the waves rushed to reach
Their pretty little treasures to reclaim as its own
Crashing round them, saying leave and go home
After a breakfast of bacon, grits, eggs and toast
I went out to join the others and meet our new host
Then sitting in the shade we all tried to catch up
While for the luncheon someone was passing the cup
We all put our money in to pay for the bash
Then off we went shopping, were gone like a flash
Looking for souvenirs they all seemed the same
Everyone to buy for, now who is the first name
Took grandson to the Alligator Park just to see
If the albino gator was white, so we paid the fee
These ugly prehistoric monsters just lying in wait
For some poor soul to slip, they needed the bait
It was there, that white lazy reptile, lying in the heat
It's speed grabbing handouts was really quite neat
As it's jaws opened it was amazing just how wide
Oh my lord! big enough for a child to step inside
I got shivers and turned away and almost died
A snake wrapped round his neck, his grin wide
Was my precious grandson, no fear did he show
Having the best time of his life, his face all aglow
I turned away to see something more my speed
Some beautiful turtles sunning so natural indeed
There was one there must have been a great age
He was huge, waist high, as far as I could gage
I took lots of photographs, to put in the scrapbook
Started gathering the family, they all had a last look
Saying they wanted to return, maybe in a year or two
If we should comeback, I'll find others things to do
Returning to the hotel, we all went down to the beach
The water so blue, the waves crashing as if to reach
To claim what it had left behind, it's search was wide
Lovingly, gathering it gently, to return with the tide
The pleasure of watching my boy frolic in the sea
My heart checked itself, the love so full here in me
Tears gathered, my eyes, full did begin to overflow
How much I care for this child, none will ever know
My husband, finally worn to a frazzle, from the play
Decided we should go in, we would be back next day
Grumbling, kid saying, you never let me have any fun
Then grinning, last one a rotten egg, he began to run
A show for that evening, we had all longed to attend
Just getting ready the excitement, a lot to contend
Where will we meet, do you have the tickets dear
Will you please hurry up I want to get out of here
We were on our way as usual we were late to start
If we miss the show would break the kids heart
We got there in time, we really put on the speed
We were just in time to enter the "Dixie Stampede"
Took us a while to make our way to the second floor
To find our places to enter though the right door
The noise level the decibels I know would have read
Same as the airport in Atlanta some would have said
Finally the floor show started out came the Emcee
Riding a horse, now, that was really something to see
For this was a dinner theater I had never seen such
Eating, watching horses, wagons, what a great touch
The first thing the darn fool did was to divide us into
One side the gray while the other side for the blue
This show an enactment of the War between the States
I'm supposed to be yelling for the north? Land sakes!
Me, a Southern Belle born, bred though and through
I'm to yell for some Yankee some fool dressed in blue
Grandson said "come join in the fun sweetheart please
That war has been over a hundred years, oh jeese"
I just had to smile and whispered in his little ear
You tell anyone about this, I'll smack ya, ya hear
We yelled and stomped on the floor with our shoe
We whistled for our dear sweet boys in the blue
While on the other side they yelled for the gray
We booed and we hissed and I just want to say
You can really get into it, I forgot for awhile there
Who had really won the war, no more did I care
Those folks had us enthralled, our eyes seemed to pop
The horses and wagons would they be able to stop
They tore around the arena at galloping high speed
My heart was in my throat, Oh! Wow, Yes! indeed
At the end of the performance the applause was great
A standing ovation, several times, for they did rate
Each one they received, with whistles and shouts
I guess that's what they say showmanship is all about
The show let out, souvenirs we bought at no little cost
We then exited the theater and soon promptly got lost
We turned onto the wrong hi-way, we got turned around
Not for awhile did we know we were homeward bound
Finally after telling hubby you're going the wrong way
I persuaded him to ask for directions, and I just may
Faint dead, cause he actually did, though he will deny
That he was really lost, I just sit back and loudly sigh
After a good night sleep, a new day has now dawned
I peek over the cover, stretched and then yawned
I then remember, the on-line chatters bash is today
Hit the floor running, "first dibs for the shower" I say
Our grandson is left with video and some of his toys
While we go to the luncheon with older girls and boys
The room is packed to the rafters no more can get in
Everyone is laughing, greeting each other and then
It is time to get started, announcements are done
Luncheon is served buffet style on the dot of one
Finally make it through the line and sit down to eat
When all of sudden, startled, we are up on our feet
Into the room come prancing four objects in pink
I can't believe what I see and I just about sink
Back down into my chair and just about swoon
Then I start laughing, praying that they don't moon
Us, as we giggle cause we see and we know who
The sweet, wonderful, brave guys in tiny pink tutu's
Could be talked into doing it, Oh, Jewel, thank you
For making me laugh so hard it was all I could do
Not to double over, fall off my chair onto the floor
I finally had to get up and head for the back door
For nature called because I had laughed so hard
I just barely made it out through the back yard
When back in the room where the tutu's danced
I tried to get in close to see and as I advanced
They were posing and primping for all to see
And one tutu sat there with a lady on each knee
Wrapping up the gig dancing as they passed by
In Rockett style starting kicking their legs high
We cheered them on as they went on their way
My it has certainly been such a wonderful day
But it wasn't over by a long shot it by any means
For we are to have a fashion show, so it seems
Of all kind of hats made up of all sorts of things
From fish nets and to flowers to dangling strings
There were sea shells and papers with screen names
Each person there was listed we then made a game
We found our name and cut it off one of the hats
Looking at us you'd have thought we'd gone bats
When we finally made it back to our hotel room
All I wanted to do was to do was to resume
Thinking about all that had happened today
How happy we all were and I'd like to say
No bunch of folks nowhere else can be found
Like the ones I just left and I will be bound
We'll be on the computer before the days end
Going into chat rooms, typing and hitting send
Telling who didn't make it how much fun we had
Saying next year we hope to meet them, to bad
That they could not make it, sorry, got to dash
Make sure you plan to be at our next year's bash
