A Titan's Love
(Dedicated to my Father)
There once was a babe who fed on bliss.
Joy kept a vigil by her side and the
Deep, lulling voice of a titan
Blanketed her heart.
He sat at the fireside of tenderness
And held her in the cushion of his quintessence.
As she grew, his vigilant murmur
Caressed her ears.
He told tales of another world
outside their quiet sanctuary,
And one day he took her tiny hand in his
And opened the door to the bright daylight of uncertainty.
He taught her to question.
He taught her to love.
He taught her to search for truth.
He taught her to sing.
He opened his heart, handed over his weapons of
Faith, wisdom, and humility,
And with tears in his eyes, pointed her in the direction
Of her destiny.
She traveled down roads of fear.
She ventured up hills of beauteous laughter.
She was confronted with demons of temptation, lies, and heartbreak.
She saw weakness, strength, cruelty, and kindness
Battle in a maelstrom of human lives.
And when despair had her prostrate in the dirt of surrender,
The titan heard her cries, held out his hand and
Led her back to their hearth of healing.
The titan never foundered, never betrayed, never ridiculed.
And when the day came for the babe to seek an asylum of her own,
He fixed his moist eyes on hers and placed his
Most prized possession in her hands - his heart.
She had no words to utter as tears of gratification and humility
Sparkled on her face except, "I love you father".
As she turned and walked past the thresh hold of tenderness
Into her world of uncertainty, he gazed down
Through his curtain of tears and saw that
He held her heart in his gentle titan hands.
