Why "Ambiguously Fabulous"?
At first, I named my page this because I wanted to include the word "Fabulous", and wanted the title to be catchy (therefore the "Absolutely Fabulous"TM -sound alike), but I realized that the name to my site needed to have at least some meaning. I still wanted to keep this spiffy name, all the same.
So here is what my personal version of "Deep Thought" (c/o Douglas Adams) came to. (42!!) Because this page is largely [or so was the intention] based on Art-Deco Era Fashion, I focused on my own personal interest in this subject matter. I have never really known why I became attached to this time-period, or the clothing. After all, most costume critics will always point out the 1926-1933 era as "plain", "ugly", "utilitarian","boxy", "unflattering". One of those culprits is the Author of "What People Wore" (Grrr), who only devotes one page to all of the twenties, out of 250-some pages?
But back to the point, I never realized what precisely carried me to this yearning for bound breasts and rolled hose. My other interests and the subsequent attachment to them can be explained; I've liked swing music since 7th grade and thus started to dance. However I was thrusted into Art Deco by force unbeknownst to me.
But a great, Ambiguous, force all the same. A benevolent force that has greatly influenced my life in the past three years, and the fabric choices I make. Also ambiguous was my quite sudden start of Vintage Collecting this past Winter of '98-'99. I never had the means nor the contacts, but here I am now with boxes and closetspace full of treasures. Treasures to share with YOU, my dear readers!
So there's my explanation, take it or leave it. I suppose if it is not viable enough, I'll change the name to "Marianne Goldin's House of Chicken and Waffles". *g* |
