If you're expecting a really complicated tutorial to create fiery text, you're mistaken. Creating flames is easy with Eye Candy from Alien Skin. If you haven't downloaded the plug-ins already, do it now. I can guarantee that they're the best set of filters you'll ever come across. |
I've come across many tutorials for creating fiery texts and none can compare to this technique. This filter is the only way to apply realistic flames to your text. |
For
this tutorial, you'll need:
- Eye Candy from Alien Skin and - the text tool Let's get started. |
Step
1:
Create a new file with black as your background set to 16 million colours. With white as your foreground colour, enter in some text and make sure that the "antialias" box is checked. It's best to use a thick font or a font using the bold style. This will create better flames. |

Step
2:
With the text still selected, open the "fire" filter from the Eye Candy plug-ins and enter the following settings: - flame width: 20 pixels - flame height: 100 pixels - movement: 30 - inside masking: 32 - edge softness: 6 - random seed: 49 You should have an image like the one below, with the background flames produced. |

Step
3:
Keep the text selected and using the "fire" filter again, enter in these settings: - flame width: 8 pixels - flame height: 100 pixels - movement: 50 - inside masking: 50 - edge softness: 6 - random seed: 10 This is the final image. |

You
don't have to use the settings I've suggested. Experiment to see what kind
of effects are possible. Eye Candy also has a lot of pre-set styles which
produce effects as good as the one above. Click on the banner below to purchase Eye Candy now.

These flames can also be used to create effective burning edges on photos and other images. I also have a tutorial on this so click here to see how it's done. |
