Glowing Text
This is a simple method to create a nice glowing effect around your text. It's used all the way through my homepage. Click here to visit it now. In this tutorial, you will be using:
- the blur more function,
- the text tool and
- the dilate function.
Below is an example of the final image.
Step 1:
Create a new file with black as your background set to 16 million colours. For the foreground colour, select light purple:
- Red: 128
- Green: 128
- Blue: 255
Now enter some text. I used the ribbon font at size 36 set to bold italics. Unselect the text by clicking "selections - select none".
Step 2:
Open the "image" menu and from the "other" option, select "dilate" and do this 3 times. This will expand the text.
Step 3:
Go back to the "image" menu and this time pick the "blur more" function from the "blur" option. Do this three times. This will create the glowing effect around the text.
Step 4:
Now select dark purple as your foreground colour:
- Red: 0
- Green: 0
- Blue: 64
Enter the same text again and move it so it superimposes the blurred text. This is the final image.
You can also mix and match colours. However, this effect looks best with a lighter colour on the outside and a much darker colour on the inside.
