Dark Waters

I sit upon the sand
eyes seeking sight through dim realities
back fortified by the skeletal remains
of a once proud conifer.

Across the bay
scenes appear through fog-mist
then fade.
Above the bank
mountains heavy with hoar
bask their peaks within the twilight zone
clinging to the last purple jewels
the dying light bestows.

A younger self appears
walking on water
lusting for life’s bittersweet
just beyond reach.

Now
more and more
God’s coup de grace
taunts my mind
leaving me wondering
premonition
or preparation for my sight
to penetrate dark waters.
