Sd.Kfz.250/4 was originally to be an air defense armored vehicle (leichte Truppenluftschützenpanzerwagen) armed with twin (Zwilinglafette 36) 7.92mm MG34 machine guns but it was not produced. Instead, observation and fire directing vehicle for self-propelled artillery units (e.g. Sturmgeschütz) was produced.
