Arriving at Cristobal, Canal Zone 13 July, the USS Lansdowne DD486 was immediately sent to a position where PC-458 had located an enemy submarine. Upon arrival Lansdowne put down a severe depth charge attack. This resulted in large quantities of oil rising to the surface, and the forward motion of the submarine ceased on radar. Unable to confirm a kill at the time, postwar records established that U-153 was sunk by these attacks.
