Another international airport in Bucharest

It has come to my knowledge that some business men came up with a project to build a new international airport in Bucharest.
Bucharest has the Bucuresti-Otopeni international airport (LROP), the largest and most used one in the country, Romania's main international airport, as well as the Baneasa International Airport, also located in N Bucharest, actually not really so far from Otopeni. Besides these two, there also is the Titu-Boteni Air Force Base, some 20 km N-W of Bucharest, which in case of emergency can be used to host civilian passenger jets and helicopters, as well as all other kinds of aircraft.
A consortium of various Romanian and international companies and businessmen, came up with a project for a very large horse track in the Vacaresti area inside Bucharest. Romania is a country with very old and proud traditions when it comes to horse tracks and rallys, as well as jockeys, horse breeds and everything else related to this sport, and the country already has a wide network of horse tracks. One of them, located right here in my small town of Targu-Mures, in the district of Mures (MS), Transylvania, is used on a yearly basis to host national, balkan and sometimes even world horse track championships. In fact I have just attended one recently, and done some pics. They will be available soon in the photos section (http://photos.yahoo.com/sorin_1999_98).
Then, would you say, why build another one, especially with another international airport, in Bucharest ? The reason is business. The group of businessmen want to build a big and modern horse track there, a whole network of golf courses, swiming pools, vacation houses and facilities, maybe even an artificial lake plus a private beach, as well as many other things. Near them, they will build a long landing strip, which would be large enough to allow the take-off and landing of planes as big as a Jumbo-Jet. Near the strip there will also be a number of helicopter pads, to allow the landing and maintenance of privately-owned helicopters. This whole complex designed for multi-millionairs, visiting Romania for pleasure or business, will cost around 250 million dollars, and construction is due to begin in 2003. The project should be done in may-june 2005.
I hope this will contribute to the already expanding economy of Romania.
