Sirs,
As I sit huddled by my fire on this cold and dreary night, I am reminded of the many days and nights our brave soldiers have endured to rid our state of the vile yankee aggressors. Gentlemen, our state has seen so many horrendous depradations in these past months that I now itch for the chance to take the field once more against these people. The roads will be clear soon and it is time once more for our men to gather. It is with the utmost urgency then, that I inform you that I shall soon take up the march from my camp on the Little Platte toward our meeting spot on the James' Farm, near Kearney. I plan to go into camp on the 24th. of March, inst. for the purpose of recruiting and training our troops. This Muster and camp of instruction has been ordered by our gallant Captain J.J. Martin and should be attended by all. If you must contact me before my departure, please do so through regular channels and with great care, for this portion of the country is full of murderous red leg Jayhawkers.
