German Made Rifle Muskets

.
Schuler, Hartly & Graham & Willam Hahn of New York, NY. were two importers who may have supplied rifle muskets almost identical to the Model 1861 except in minor details, showing exceptional workmanship. These were described by Hahn as German Rifled Muskets, Springfield Pattern, cal., .58 although no specific reference is made that they were made at Suhl, Germany. The bottoms of some barrels have German proofs G within a diamond and the word SHUL. Others are found with the name CH FUNK/SHUL The lockplates are marked in front of the hammer, with an EAGLE slightly different from those on American made arms and U.S. well foward between bolster and front lockplate screw and were dated behind the hammer, 1861. The lockplate is slightly heavier than American made and the rear sight is very much like the early 1861 production without side screw protection, and the stock may be made of maple instead of walnut.
