A. H. Waters & Co. Contract Rifle Muskets

Asa H. Waters of Millbury Mass. manufactured regulation Model 1861 rifle muskets. All rifle muskets were of the
Model 1861 type with parts interchangeable. These arms were marked on the lockplates in front of the hammer, with a right facing
EAGLE with its wings in the down position and U.S. over MILLBURY in two lines, under the bolster
and were dated behind the hammer, 1864. No evidence exists of Waters every receiving a gov't contract to manufacture
rifle muskets. Those few specimens that survive may have been a state contract or subcontracted by a prime contractor to fullfill
their obligations.
