Sarson & Roberts Rifle Muskets

John B. Sarson & William S. Roberts, of New York, NY., contracted with the War Dept. to manufacture regulation model 1861 rifle muskets in 1861. All muskets delivered were of the model 1861 type. With the exception of the stocks, barrels & sights all other parts were subcontracted by Jenks & Son. Lockplates were usually marked with an eagle in front of the hammer and U.S. over NEW YORK over date 1862 in three lines. The date was not marked behind the hammer.
