Union Arms Co. Contract Rifle Muskets

Union Arms Co. of New York, NY. contracted with the War Dept. to manufacture regulation Model 1861
rifle muskets. All rifle muskets delivered were of the Model 1861 type with parts interchangeable. These arms were
marked on the lockplates in front of the hammer, with EAGLE over U.S. in two lines and U.A. CO.
over NEW YORK in two lines, under the bolster and were dated behind the hammer, 1863. Three contracts
were issued to Union Arms Co. in 1861 but in April 1862 the firm made successful application to reduce the total number of arms to
25,000. Very few arms however, were delivered.
