MARCY MATHIS DUPRE
First Executive Officer of USS Indiana BB-58 from the commissioning on 30 April 1942 to 01 January 1943.
Marcy Mathias Dupre was born in Troup, Texas on February 27, 1899 the son of Marcy M. Dupre and Sallie Belle Nasson Dupre. He attended Lubbock High School in Lubbock, Texas before entering the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD on June 22, 1916.
World War I During the summers of 1917 and 1918 he had service as a Midshipman aboard the USS New York and the USS Kansas in the Atlantic Fleet.
7 June 1919 Dupre graduated and commissioned Ensign.
June 1919 Assigned to USS Arizona.
June 1921 Duty aboard USS Ellis operating with Destroyer Force, Atlantic Fleet. USS Ellis was placed out of commission on June 10, 1922.
June 1922 Transferred to the USS Preble (Destroyer). Operated with Destroyer Squadrons, Asiatic Fleet.
20 July 1925 Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD as instructor in the Electrical Engineering and Physics Department.
June 1927 Duty on the battleship USS New Mexico. He received 3 special letters of commendation when the USS New Mexico won the Battle Efficiency Pennant in the competitive years 1927-28; 1928-29; and 1929-30.
June 1930 Duty at U. S. Naval Observatory, Washington, D.C.
September 1932 Assistant Gunnery Officer on the USS Mississippi.
June 1935 Naval Academy, instructor in Economics and Government Departments.
4 June 1938 Command of the USS Mugford.
10 June 1939 Assistant Operations Officer on the staff of Commander, Battle Force, U. S. Fleet.
March 1941 Executive Officer in the Department of Mathematics, U.S. Navy Academy until December 8, 1941.
January 1942 Ordered to the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, Newport News, VA. His duty was in connection with fitting out the USS INDIANA. He served as Executive Officer from Commissioning April 30,1942 until January 1, 1943.
1 January 1943 Transferred to duty on the staff of Commander Naval Bases, South Pacific Area. He was Commander of Motor Torpedo Boat Squadrons, South Pacific.
20 July 1943 Base Plans Officer on the staff of Commander, South Pacific Area and South Pacific Force.
March 1944 Office of the Chief of Naval Operations as Head of Pacific Plans Section.
July 1945 Command of the USS Columbia (CL56) operating in the Pacific.
January 1946 Student at the Army and Navy Industrial College, Washington, DC. He became Special Assistant for Surplus Property and Disposition to the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Logistics).
Fall 1946 With a group of naval officers and one army officer, he accompanied Assistant Secretary of the Navy W. John Kenney on a month's official tour of the Pacific. The purpose of the trip was to gain familiarity with material logistics, demobilization and postwar problems and plans.
30 June 1949 Retired from the Navy.
Rear Admiral Marcy M. Dupre died May 9, 1971.
