Name of Show: BGEC's Celebration
Date: August 5, 1999
Hosted by: Katie Cat
Hosted at: BGEC @ MHS
The day started early, with Allison Zeal and the Classic Rose Acres horses and riders arriving first at 6:30 AM! The Royal z Ranch crew pulled into the MHS driveway soon after. MHS was closing up, and so horses were gone and the place was deserted, until the horses arrived. Gold Showcase Acres came next, bringing something like 50 horses and nearly as many riders with them, so they made a huge bunch! Lilianne Smith from Pewter Park brought her horses next, and then the SMS bunch, including Jennifer A. and her boarder Carlie came, with Carlie right behind Jennifer brining along her horses. The next group to come was the Mare Haven Farm and Hope Ranch crew, who arrived together and ready to rock and roll! The BGEC horses were all ready, so at about 7:00 the first event of the day began. Everyone (without horses, who were left in the now deserted MHS barns) walked over to BGEC and found a surprise. Alana Robertson was there to cut the ribbon! Katie handed her the scissors, and Alana cut the ribbon in front of the barn, which spanned the human door.
"I pronounce Black Gem Equestrian Center formerly from Maple Hollow Stables officially open as a mini-barn," she said. "And looking for a new home barn," added Katie, and some people laughed, "Now here's my quick speech. I'd just like to thank Alana for being such a great councelor. I guess I can give myself a little redit, since I was her mentor in REINS, the old HC game," she said, grinning, "But really, she's been wonderful, and I know I'll miss her so much. Good-bye Alana! And now, off to the show. Ya'll have 1 hour to get ready, then it's show time."
Alana Robertson moved off. She was the guest of honor for the day and was preparing to sit in her seat right by the ring. Everyone waved to her as she went to take her spot.
Slightly nervous riders prepared for the show, spotlessly grooming the halter horses which were to go first. At the barns all was a flurry of halters and tack, jackets and boots, curry combs and hard brushes. Warming for dressage classes began in the MHS dressage arena.
Spectators began to arrive and browse the booths. The Thoroughbred Association had a big table with information on the next show, which all of the participants with Thoroughbreds were encouraged to enter, and there was lots of information on joining the HTA. A big sign on the top of the booth advertised the association's website, at http://hoofprints.cjb.net/hoofbeats/hta.html. The Silver Maple Stables booth was decked in green and purple streamers, which were tied down so as not to spook horses, but still colorful. There was information on the wonderful facilities and about boarding. Some of the best horses, such as WSE*/SHA* Too Hot 2 Trot, Jennifer's prize Dutch Warmblood stud, were also advertised for the visitors to see. Black Gem Equestrian Center had it's own booth, advertising ```^^HEAS/SSA/ATR/HSBA*/SHA* Black Gem****(SEAC/TEAAS/M98/RHRC/RDA/HET+*), Katie's fabulous Thoroughbred stud with what she claims is the largest name in HoofBeats. The booth also showcased Katie's hireablity as a HET rider to ride for understaffed barns in shows. The display included some of the many ribbons she had won, mostly on Black Gem or her prize mare Bewitched. A few other booths, including a bunch of horse tee-shirt sales for horse-lovers both participating in the show and watching it were there, so that everyone could find a way to spend a little money. Hot dog and hamburger stands sponsored by BGEC were available free of charge to riders and owners and for a small price for the food to spectators, so that between classes riders could get some lunch. Then, the show began. Spectators were settled, and Alana announced the opening.
"I present to you, BGEC's Celebration! Let the show begin!" she proclaimed. Alana was acting as a surprise announcer for the day.

First Bewitched, then To Hot 2 Trot were paraded out by Katie Cat and Jennifer A. The whole crowd cheered these equine champions.
"And I'm sure you all can guess who the champion barn is," said Alana.
CHAMPION BARN Golds Showcase Acres
RESERVE CHAMPION BARN Hope Ranch
As Christinia Gedney and Julie walked out for their round of applause, Alana announced, "Did you notice that Golds Showcase Acres sometimes had a straight sweep of all of the classes? Now I call that a barn to train your horses at! And Hope Ranch and it's minibarn Mare Haven Farm did amazing in all of the classes they were in, often winning or placing in the top 3."
"I am now going to announce the prizes which will go to the owners of the champion horses in both champion disciplines and the overall champions. We also have a prize for our champion barn owners," said Alana.
"As the champion barn Christina Gedney of Golds Showcase Acres wins a free breeding to Bronze Pine Man from Jennifer A. of SMS! As champion of the show and the equitation and hunter champion Bewitched wins a free breeding to WSE*/SHA* To Hot 2 Trot from Jennifer A. of SMS and a free entry into the next Thoroughbred Association Show and a free entry into any All-Around Association Show from Katie Cat! Congradulations to all the great horses and the winners, their owners!"
After the show horses and riders went on a trail ride. The owners of each barn or mini-barn selected their favorite horse and followed MHS's trails on the cliffs by the Atlantic Ocean. The sun was just starting to set, casting a rosy glow over everything and reflecting off the surf. Our guest of honor was riding Bewitched, the show's champion. The ride proceeded smoothly and everyone returned and put the horses away in the MHS barn. They were all fed, something included in the price of entering. Then the people went for a cookout by the ocean, horseless. As everyone began to finish eating, a spectacular fireworks show began, the reason the horses were back in the barn. At about 10:00 all of the participants finally finished the day and were on their way home.
