As a High School Science teacher, Body Voyage presents a very unique view of human anatomy. Body Voyage has an introduction which explains in detail how this program came into being. A prisoners body was taken, after execution, and the body was transformed into 120 billion bits of data. Which was transformed, through computer tomography, into 3D images allowing a transparent view of the body parts and for removal of the organs from the body for closer inspection by my students. This permits my students a view of the body which would not be permitted by conventional classroom methods.
The Main Menu Screen includes the Introduction, Body Voyage and Credits. When you click on the Body Voyage, the image is highlighted into Body, Head, Torso, Pelvis, and Legs. You can click on the body section you wish to view from the Body Voyage Main Screen Menu. The Body Voyage Main Screen Menu includes Prologue, Body Vision, Cross Section, Dissolve, and Fly Through on the left. On the right is the Index, Menu, Help and Quit. Buttons. This screen will take you and your students on a 3D journey through an actual human body from many different views and angles. Also include on the Menu Screen is the Gallery and Related Stories.
Clicking on Body Viewer, the main screen shows a 3D Transparency of the body or of the body section you highlighted from the main menu screen. The 3D transparency includes skin, muscles, tissues, organs and bones. This screen allows your students for the first time to see how the body parts overlay each other. Clicking on the Cross Section will show you a cross section view of the body section highlighted from 3 different views. The screen shows the Front, Top and Side views.
Clicking on Dissolve rotates through the body dissolving the tissues layer by layer. Clicking on Fly Through takes you on a fly through journey of the skeleton from head to toe. Navigating through the human skeleton like no other program does! Clicking on Index gives you an alphabetical listing on related topics from alcoholism to white blood cells. Included in this window are topics such as Stress 1 & 2. Clicking on stress 1 tells you about the bodies response to stress. Clicking on Menu returns you to the main menu screen. Clicking on help explains how to maneuver through menu screen.
I highly recommend Body Voyage as a unique perspective into the human anatomy! I intend to use Body Voyage in my classroom and recommend it to other high school science teachers.
