Kody's Story
I belong to a wonderful group of people dedicated to helping Keeshonden in need of a home; Keeshond Rescue & Railroad. We use the internet as a source of getting information passed along to people who can help all across the US and Canada.
One day in April 1997, a message was listed in my e-mail requesting help in getting a Keeshond out of a shelter in Boston, MA, and into foster care for eventual placement in a new permanent home. For the first time, I decided to jump in and offer my help. I sent a message that I would foster this Keeshond and find him a good home. A rescue and railroad were put together to bring the Keeshond to me in Pennsylvania.
When I received Cookie, as the shelter called him, he was shaved bald, aggressive towards men, malnourished, and obviously had a hard life. He was an unneutured male, approximately 7 years old. Since he was a male, we changed his name to Kody. We gave Kody attention, food, vet check-ups, and our love.
It has been almost a year now since we have had Kody. We decided to keep him. He has come a long way. He is less aggressive towards men, house-broken, neutured, and has a beautiful new coat. He has taken beginners and intermediate obedience classes and thoroughly enjoys it. The socialization he has received in the classes has truly lessened his aggression and changed his behavior. He is a typical loving, playful Kees.
Just look at the pictures below and see for yourself what a change Kody has gone through in just one year. You can see it in his expression. From left to right; Kody when he was brought into the shelter. Kody on the first day that we brought him home from the shelter, shaved and scared. Kody today, beautiful and happy!
It is with a sad heart that I must report that Kody had to be helped to the Rainbow Bridge on July 3, 2002. Kody was 12 years old, and had inoperable tumors that were causing internal bleeding. Good Bye Kody. We miss you!
